The San Antonio Spurs Pay Tribute to their 35th Anniversary
SAN ANTONIO, November 8, 2007 - The San Antonio Spurs will celebrate their rich history this season with four special tribute games dedicated to the 35th Anniversary of the franchise. The San Antonio Spurs played their first ABA regular season game against the San Diego Conquistadors at the HemisFair Arena on October 10, 1973.
Beginning this Sunday, November 11th, the Spurs will host their first night of celebrating with a look back at the beginning of the Spurs franchise. The first Spurs "35th Anniversary" game tips off at 7:00 p.m. against the Milwaukee Bucks at the AT&T Center.
There are a total of four Spurs "35th Anniversary" tribute games scheduled throughout the season. Dates of the games include: January 14 vs. Philadelphia 76ers, February 19 vs. Charlotte Bobcats and March 26 vs. Los Angeles Clippers.
There will be a halftime presentation to recognize and thank Red McCombs for his contributions to the Spurs organization. Any word if they are wearing the throw-backs??
I'm not sure about the cost effectiveness of this marketing strategy in San Antonio . . .- For $35, Spurs fans will have the opportunity to purchase a Spurs game ticket in Club 200 and receive a special bracelet that will offer them the opportunity to eat as many hot dogs, nachos, popcorn and soda/water during our Eat, Drink and Be Loud promotional
I hear you. But it does strive to put fannies in the seats for games against 4 of the league's lesser draws (BobcatsDynasty's sentiments aside), which ensures $35 per fanny that the Spurs wouldn't have otherwise gotten. Considering the markup on concessions, the losses shouldn't be too bad, even if the expected enthusiasm for taking advantage of the promotion holds.
