Nice! The last half of this year is shaping up to be one of the best in terms of quality matchups in a long, long time.

I've been hoping these two would get it on, and this fight along with Calzaghe/Kessler are going to be excellent to watch.

I can see this fight going 10 rounds of back and forth.

    Agreed.

Cotto's a good fighter but he's going to get a reality check on this nite.

You also have to remember Mosley is no spring chicken, but I agree it is going to be a good fight and props to two men willing to take chances by fighting each other.

Oh and Kessler/Calzaghe should be an excellent fight, I hope US fight fans get behind this one.

He's definitely no spring chicken, but his last 5 fights, he's looking more and more like the Sugar Shane that beat de la Hoya as opposed to the guy that got manhandled twice by Vernon Forrest, which in my opinion was just a bad, bad matchup for him.

Kessler can punch with anbody and Calzaghe has a great chin, fas hands and has held his le for 10 years. Throw in the fact that both are undefeated and all the belts are on the line, as well as the fight taking place in a 75,000-seat venue, and you have the makings of a great atmosphere and fight.

If Cotto wins this fight, a star will be born.

He's already been born, making millions and has 25 knockouts (most quite brutal I might add). He is the new Puerto Rican maniacal superstar, it's just that Trinidad refuses to go away.

I think this WILL be the fight of the year, but in the end Cotto will come of age in a of a test. Cotto will be bloodied and will learn more than a few things about true handspeed. He'll go on to dominate for years.

Serious question. Do boxing fans have the rise in the popularity of MMA to thank for some of the good boxing matchups coming up? Would some of these matchups have happened if the general public didn't perceive the sport to be slipping?

Yes. And I am stating that as a boxing fan although if you go to boxing forums for some odd reason most of the other fans will never admit it. I don't get that.

more penis envy from MMA fans. Boxing doesn't owe MMA a thing.

I've got a serious question for MMA fans. Would your sport do better if they allowed the fighters to get drunk before the fights?

there are ups and downs in every sport except maybe the NFL. MMA fans couldn't possibly know what clycical means because you have to be considered a sport for longer than 3 years.

Bernard Hopkins Thanks UFC For Helping Boxing
    By Jason Perkins | November 08, 2007

Legendary Boxer Bernard Hopkins, who also doubles as a promoter for Golden Boy Promotions, had some kind words for the UFC in the course of promoting a fight between Shane Mosely and Miguel Cotto according to TheAge.com.

"I will say thanks to the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) that boxing now has to step up and make the matches that interest people," he said.

Hopkins has gone on record recently about his opinion that the UFC has pushed boxing to make better matches.

"Boxing is back like the 1980s, with the (Marvin) Haglers and the (Sugar) Ray Leonards," Hopkins said. "Now the talent is going head to head with other champions."

I just see a bigger influx of quality boxers now. Superfights haven't gone away. . Just more quality fights than earlier in this decade.

The talent has matured. Boxing still needs more young talent, but it's better than what it's been the past 3-4 years.
