"You gave an aging suburban dad the ego boost of a lifetime," he says in a letter published in the magazine. "My 9-year-old stepdaughter now thinks I'm cool -- well, cooler."
Damon, who has a 1-year-old daughter, Isabella, with Bozan, says "all the campaigning" by Clooney and Pitt had finally paid off.
"Unfortunately, after all those years out on the trail, the meet and greets, the fundraisers, the stump speeches, I've finally come to terms with the fact that this is a mantle I wasn't meant to hold," he says in the letter, which was signed "Matty."
"Don't get me wrong, though. I was really shocked and happy (Lucy said I actually blushed) when I heard the news. So I can't thank you enough for that."

Damon's the kind of actor that's always struck me as being funny, smart, and talented, but not particularly sexy. Appealing, but not va-va-voom.

It's about time!! I've loved Matt since School Ties (which came out in 1992! Wow!) and think he really is sexy. I was happy to see the announcement this morning on GMA.

The Sexiest Man Alive honor is alot like the NBA MVP Award...just like how Tim Duncan should win MVP basically every year but doesn't, Brad Pitt should win SMA every year, but I guess that won't sell as many magazines.

I think it's a requirement of actors in the Oceans 11 series, I remember seeing a 'behind the scenes' special on the movie where George Clooney and Brad Pitt were giving Matt Damon a hard time about having not won it yet.
If that's the case, I'd have gone for Don Cheadle over Matt Damon.
I think Matt has gotten sexier as he's gotten a little older. He's starting to get the slightest crinkles around his eyes and his maturity is beginning to show. He's 37 now and I'll bet he'll really be SMA in 10 about years.

Matt is cute, but a bit too boyish, wholesome-looking for me. And Brad Pitt is too much--I don't like guys who are too good looking! George Clooney is the classic, probably the best. My personal taste though, it would go to someone like Kevin Spacey.
Kevin Spacey is a good choice, but my all-time favorite will always be Johnny Depp.
