I got a co-worker who's wife is going to be stationed in Germany. He happened to mention to me on break that they are trying to sell their truck before they go. I told him he would be stupid if he didnt take it over seas and sell it over there since I happen to know other military people make a huge chunk of change selling their trucks in Germany (American trucks are highly prized over there). For instance, there is a 2006 Dodge Ram on germany ebay motors thats going for 51900 Euro which comes out to just over $77,000USD.

I was wondering if there is some type of trade law that doesnt allow someone to do this on a regular basis? I cant find anything. Anyone know more about this?

VAT and import duties into the EU would probably take away a good chunk of the profit.

And there's the compliance to emission laws in the EU that could prevent the whole thing all together.

good info, thats probably why military people gets such a good chunk because the military pays for 1 vehicle to be shipped for free so they (the soldier) dont have to go through all that.

I don't know the details because it's a thing between Germany and the US, but I'm pretty sure that one car per serviceman is some sort of exception to the EU import rules. Commercially you would not get that exception.
