HDNet Fights "Reckless Abandon"
http://www.hdnetfights.com/events.php
Jason 'Mayhem' Miller vs Tim Kennedy
Frank Trigg vs Edwin Dewees
Yves Edwards vs Alonzo Martinez
Pete Spratt vs Tristan Yunker
Nissen Osterneck vs Freddie Espiricueta
Srysztof Soszynski vs Robert Villegas
Chris Bowles vs Corey Mahon
Patrick Castillo Vs Jay White
Jason House vs Liam McCarty (5 – 3 min rds)
Marcus Lanier vs Lee King (5 – 3 min rds)
The 5 3-min rounds thing is just something they want to play around with to see how it goes...see how the fans like it.
Not a bad card at all. Kennedy beat Miller in 2004, so there's some history there. Trigg, Dewees, Edwards, Spratt, Yunker (watch out for him), Soszynski...solid names. Definitely an improvement over their 1st card (ie, test bed).
Osterneck is an interesting prospect...

Some big names will be there too. Couture is cornering Jay White and Frank Trigg. Hendo is cornering Mayhem, Pete Spratt, and probably Soszynski. Arlovski and Ken Shamrock are supposed to be there too. Hoping to at least meet Couture...

You live in Dallas or in San Antonio?
Who's going tonight?
He lives in Ft. Worth, if my memory serves me correctly.
Yes, Ft Worth.
Dan from MMAJunkie.com was at the fights doing PbP and did a nice recap on the fights, so I'm not going to bother with one of my own...

Scott Holmes from Sherdog was there too...

It was a solid night of fights with more big names in the ring than at their 1st event, more big names in attendance, and bigger names doing arena commentary (Lindland), ring announcing (Michael Buffer, who cost some big $!!), and cutmen (ie, S ch...who was with Trigg).
Some quick thoughts:
1. Our night was partially soiled because we had 6 of the biggest small town strip-club trash -bags sitting right behind us. 3 guys and 3 girls. The 3 chicks were clearly bar s or strippers…I say clearly because of the # of lighter burns on their arms. The guys were clad in more big fake jewelry than I’ve ever seen, and they all looked the same…clearly inbred. They knew NOTHING about mma. Everytime a fight started they’d start arguing about who was going to win…”I got the red shorts! You got blue!” Didn’t know who any of the fighters were. They were dropping every cuss word in the book, which pissed off Travis Lutter and his woman who were sitting right behind them with their son (about 8 yrs old). At one point when they all got up Travis’ wife (or gf) dumped something in one of their drinks. Would’ve been funny if they had smarted off to Travis not knowing who he is. Some of my favorite quotes of the night:
“Climb the fence and jump on his ass!”
“Punch him in the forehead!”
“Choke him out!” (when neither was anywhere close to a position to do so)
“He ain’t got nothin’…he ain’t got nothin’” (just 1 second before a RNC was sunk in)
“If they had this MMA stuff back in the day I’d have dominated. I’d have beaten everybody just based on pure mean-ness” (he then proceeded to show the girls his knuckles and how they were so busted up from various fights)
And one of the guys was talking to his girl about her being on the rag and asking her if she was going to be able to dance later that night…and if she was dripping on her new boots. I’m serious…not making this $hit up! Pure trash. Everybody in the section was tired of them by the end of the night. But they were completely oblivious…starring in their own movie. Such a beating having to watch the fights with these kind of people around…
2. The 2 fights that were five 3-minute rounds were fine by me. The action seemed about the same pace as the 5-minute round fights…I think they were hoping for higher pace for the 3 minutes.
3. Arlovski isn't very talkative...lol. And after the fights his girlfriend was chewing his ass up one side and down the other...
4. I'm not so sure I like the addition of the "CompuStrike" scoreboards that show strikes thrown & landed (with %), takedowns, and sub attempts. I think it could get in the way of scoring the fights. It's too simplistic for MMA, and who is doing the CompuStrike stats? I’ll have to find out. I like that they’re trying new things, but I have to say no to any sort of scoreboard, even if unofficial.
5. Mayhem's intro was great...from start to finish, including the pre-fight talk between him and Kennedy on the big screen, which was funny. Great signing by HDNet...he brings a lot of fans, he’s entertaining outside the ring, and he’s scrappy inside the ring. He was much smaller than I expected…
6. Hendo's back feels like it's made of stone...seriously. He's a smaller guy than I expected though. Hard to believe he's fought some of the guys he's fought…he’s no LHW. Can't wait for Hendo vs Anderson Silva...
7. The vertical scar down Yves Edwards nose is crazy...
8. I’ve read that Sam Hoger cuts down from 240 lbs or so to fight at 205 lbs…I believe it after seeing him last night. Easily 250 lbs…easily.
9. Nissen Osterneck appears to have a little something…he overwhelmed a great standup fighter…impressive showing.
10. Couture’s left elbow does NOT look good. I wish I’d asked him about it after the fights when we talked to him, but I wasn’t thinking clearly. You can kinda see the huge lump on it in this crappy picture.
11. Couture said the plan is to fight Fedor after his UFC contract expires. He said this to me when I asked him about it and when he was interviewed at one point during the night while on the big screen. Let’s hope it happens.
He took pics with tons of people that came down to the rail in the stands...he finally had to go to do another interview and get ready with Trigg.
Junkie has more on Fedor...

Trigg vs Mayhem II in Feb is likely since both won...which means Couture & Co should be there again. Hopefully they can get a couple more Xtreme Couture guys on the card.

Random pics…
(Shamrock looks pissed at me…lol)
And everybody got a free DVD of the new Halloween movie on the way out…the main guy in the movie was at the fights…
Feb 15th is the next HDNet Fights event…
Damn Leonard, those awesome pics! You certainly met the "who's who" of MMA.
It sucks that you had to be sitting right next to the biggest jerkoffs in the place. How some people can be so oblivious to how classless they are being is beyond me.
We walked right into Randy and his group afterwards...kinda lucky there. Although my wife had already gotten her pic within earlier in the night when he was on the floor.
In hindsight I wish I'd asked him about his elbow...
and I wish my brother would've told me that he had his Fedor shirt on under his sweat ...would've been sweet to get a picture of Randy choking him with his Fedor shirt on, to go along with the picture of Fedor choking him from Vegas last year. I know the UFC is frowning on guys doing that (even if pretending), so maybe Randy would do it just for that reason...maybe in Feb we can get that done...![]()
What did you do to piss off Shamrock? It looks like he wants to beat you into the living death.
Nice pics.
I know man...didn't notice that til I pulled the pics off the camera. I didn't do anything! Was just taking a picture...
A living death...great line!
Leonards a pretty big guy.![]()
