After spending some time in absolutely gorgeous paradise Chile, namely in Santiago, Pucon (I climbed the Pucon Volcano three days before it erupted. Tight!), Chillan and Puerto Varas, I crossed the border into fabulous Bariloche, Argentina. Before I add my experiences regarding the people, cuisine, wines, sights, etc. I'll stick to Manu in this thread.

First of all, and "duh", but everybody knows Manu and while I obviously knew that before this trip, I was looking forward to hearing some local views when appropriate. From border patrol to airline employees, to waitresses, to entrepreneurs and models, they all love Manu in Argentina. I didn't make the fact that I've met him and he lives near my folks the center of my conversation, but when appropriate (often...ha ha), for example when negotiating prices, I'd throw in the "Descuenta de Manu" factor, which always got a laugh and occassionally a couple bucks knocked off the price.

The overwhelming repsonse to the "I'm from San Antonio and think Manu is not only a great player but a great person" comments I'd make were that he's a super nice guy and represents Argentina well. Some super hot ladies told me that. They were like "awww, he's so adorable and sweet!!". And the funny thing, especially the dudes, follow the Spurs and were like "Manu's finger is hurt, hopefully he's back in form soon". I didn't even know that! Too busy travelling.

Again, not exactly a revelation at this forum, but it was fun to experience firsthand.

Anyway, another thread tomorrow after I get some much needed rest, and that thread will include photos and my experiences, including suggestions on dining, nightlife and other good stuff.

Here are the hotels where I stayed in Bariloche then in Buenos Aires. I'd highly recommend both. ManuManiac mentioned that the Llao Llao is the best in Bariloche, but I checked it out and while the Llao is the biggest by far, I'd have to clearly say the Casco Art is the finest hands down. And while you can opt for the typical executive hotels where I typically stay when on business trips, such as the Sofitel or Grand Hyatt, there's nothing cooler than the Faena. Phatness.
