HDTV Repairs

I have a feeling it might be too expensive to get it fixed, but the color on our 6/7-year-old HDTV is starting to go bad. I've noticed it for awhile, but since I don't normally watch too much TV over there, I hadn't made much of an issue.

I finally convinced the family by showing them two separate TVs with the Chargers-Colts game on and they finally see the difference.

I'm going to try The TV Shop since a few friends have told me they do great work, but I wanted to seek everybody else's opinion as well.

Ah, OK. Plasma has a half life, where the picture is only half as bright. Most come dialed in at 50% intensity, and you can just turn them up to 100% and get the other "half" of your years.

I'll get the exact model number when I get back home, but it's a Hitachi (not sure of the fail rates or anything).

Go to the Eisenhower Flea market their is a TV repair man who will fix it for 75.00 dollars. But keep in mind the last time I went to that flea market was to buy a case of 1998 SP Authentic's at 300.00 dollars a case. It had all the 1998 NFL rookie cards, The store was called American Sports. That place rules for sweet deals. I found a David Robinson game worn Jersey with his auto plus a Bible verse in a glass case for 149.00 dollars.

After I came in my sock I put it on lay a way! Later on my drunk ass traded it for a Randy Moss Insert another topic.....

Maybe if you Google your model number and see if the bulbs need to be replaced or something minor like that......I am sure someone on the www has the same problem.

If the color is to one side you may have got a stereo speaker to close to it at one time and the magnets will pull the color to one side of the screen.

All you have to do is use a vacuum to demagnetize it since the vacuum motor works on opposite rotation as the standard motor. It runs in reverse.

A dust buster is great it will do the job quick.

One thing we did notice was that the color was worse when viewing on the HD input. When we switched to the antenna input, the color improved.

HD may not be for "rear" Projection type screens.

at least not the ones from 1995

Probably need a new tube (maybe all 3). This should be easy (and cheap) enough to check and if it's the case, replacement tubes can sometimes be found online very cheap - you do need the exact part number though.

If you can get confirmation it's the tube and find it online then it shouldn't be too expensive. Otherwise you're probably better off buying a new one.
