More Abercrombie & Fitch Hunks And Babes To Get Maimed And Stomped By JJ & Co?? Here Comes CLOVERFIELD Deux!!
    Merrick here...

This is no particular surprise, but today's Variety confirms what Quint's been hearing for a while now: director Matt Reeves & writer Drew Goddard are in talks to construct some sort of CLOVERFIELD sequel.

Reeves recently indicated that a possible sequel could feasibly cover the same events chronicled in the first film...from the perspective of a different person/group of people. Whatever they do, I hope it's not that obvious and simple.

I thought the first film was generally aiight...and had some great moments...but I've no particular desire to see the exact same movie again. Chronicle one of the military units deployed to bring down the monster...maybe a new network was taping a report about a National Guard unit when the alarms sounded, for example (a la the Naudet's 9/11 footage from INSIDE the towers)? Or, cover a related-but-different incident?

It'll be interesting to see how the CLOVERFIELD gang manages to sidestep this conundrum. BOOK OF SHADOWS: BLAIR WITCH II folded the first film's "found tape" mythology into a more traditional dramatic narrative (found tape existed & referenced in a conventional "real world" -vs- Blair Witch plot line)...and many despised the results. Think they'll try something similar here?

Reeves also appears to be setting up THE INVISIBLE WOMAN, from his own script.

"Woman" is a Hitch -style thriller that probes the mind of a former beauty queen who turns to a life of crime to protect her family.

    ...says THIS ARTICLE in Variety.

Was it just me, or was anyone else annoyed by how UN-iconic the CLOVERFIELD creature was? It wasn't even as memorable as GINO. Of course, one could legitimately argue that CLOVERFIELD is not about iconography at all..and that its non-descript, difficult-to-grasp nature was itself symbolic...
