With which manufacturer do I get the best product, with the most value for my dollar?

I want Vista on it, and I get Norton and Office 2007 for free from work.

    I'm thinking wide-screen monitor....2 GB RAM. Big hard drive...etc.

    What's your opinion?

    Thanks!

I have no idea in terms of shopping around, but I'm currently on my 3rd and 4th consecutive Gateways and have been incredibly happy with them.

Jeesh. I don't even know what you're looking for. You want a desktop or a laptop? Maybe a tablet?

Dells are known to be pretty reliable, just hope you don't ever have to call their Tech Support. HPs are decent as well (I have an HP notebook that I've had for a year and a half with no problems). Avoid cookie-cutter brands like Compaq or Acer.

As someone mentioned, Gateways seem to be pretty solid as well. I've also got an old spare Gateway desktop from '98 that I recently upgraded to XP, and it took to it like a champ.

Unfortunately, paying for better brands means youre usually paying for better parts, so unless your building your own machine, you get what you pay for in the PC world.

I agree. You just need basic knowledge of computer parts and use the internet to do research and you'll have the best value for you money which is what you're looking for.

Office 2007 sucks, too, so the combination of Vista, Norton, and Office 2007 will be a synergy of suckiness.

Compaq IS HP ... Anyways, I'd say Gateway due to their Tech Support being based out of N.A. only ...

Thanks everyone! I have built my own before, and I didn't enjoy the shopping around on-line..waiting for parts, etc.

I may go gateway for the tech support.
