so, they're going to hire the Giants DC?

i wanted williams to get the job, but all the local papers in DC point to this being more a mutual decision (once he was no longer the leader to get the HC job) than the 'firing' that ESPN is reporting. it's been said that the Danny would be more than happy to have Williams stay on as DC, but obviously that's not something Williams wants to do after being passed over for HC.

i'm quite happy with the Zorn hiring. Saunders' offense never seemed a good fit for Campbell's big arm.

Dan Synder is a ing moron.

How can you fire the defense and offensive coordinators and then hire new ones BEFORE you hire a head coach. Whoever takes that job is permanently hamstrung.

Oh, and the real Kiss of Death: Vinnie The Idiot Cerrato is now officially in charge of all aspects of football operations.

I hope the Broncos go after Gregg Williams hard. They need to take that defense in a new direction.

unlike college, it's actually not that uncommon in the NFL. the cowboys did it last year. i don't remember whether garrett was hired first, but he was going to be the OC whether the HC was Phillips or anybody else.

    Are they targeting Spagnuolo then?

i'd prefer him over fassell. although i do think fassell got a bad rap in NY and if he's learned a thing or two since being able to take a step back, then he might not be as disastrous as some would think.

Dallas Cowboys in talks with Gregg Williams

Team may look to add ex-Redskins assistant to defensive staff

GLENDALE, Ariz. – The Cowboys' attempt to build an all-star defensive staff has turned to former Redskins defensive coordinator Gregg Williams.

According to a source, the Cowboys have talked with Williams about joining Wade Phillips' staff. The team also continues to wait for Dom Capers to decide if he wants to join the Cowboys.

Gregg Williams (right) spent the last four years as the Redskins' defensive coordinator. The Cowboys have replaced Todd Bowles with Dave Campo in the secondary and Kacy Rodgers with ex-Cleveland defensive coordinator Todd Grantham on the defensive line. They have yet to replace linebackers coach Paul Pasqualoni.

Should Capers and Williams become assistants, the Cowboys would have added four coaches with at least defensive coordinator experience (Capers, Williams, Campo and Grantham) and three former head coaches (Capers, Williams and Campo).

Williams spent the last four years as Washington's defensive coordinator but was fired by owner Daniel Snyder after interviewing for the Redskins' head coaching vacancy.

Before Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones made offensive coordinator Jason Garrett the highest-paid assistant coach in the league, Williams held the le in Washington, making $2.6 million annually.

Garrett, who turned down chances to become a head coach in Baltimore and Atlanta, is making around $3 million. New offensive line coach Hudson Houck will earn $1 million.

Williams is viewed as one of the NFL's top defensive minds, but he has run a 4-3 scheme. The Cowboys use a 3-4 defense.

He has coached linebackers before, running that group in Tennessee in 1997-98.

If Spagnuolo can create the same type of defense the Giants and Eagles play, he would be a good hire.

Not sure who's going to run the offense, though.
