While most Americans fuel their cars with gasoline, most of the products they buy are transported by trucks, trains and ships that burn diesel. While gas prices are unlikely to rise as high as $4 a gallon, diesel may well pass that psychologically important level this spring, boosting prices of nectarines, computers, clothing and virtually every other consumer product, said Tom Kloza, publisher and chief oil analyst at the Oil Price Information Service in Wall, N.J.
I don't see why they think it is "unlikely" that prices will top $4. The trend is certainly heading that way. Things are not going to improve in the Middle East any time in the next few years.

Remember the bad old days of Bill Clinton when oil was $23 a barrel and about a buck and a half at the pump?

Let's take a close look at what Bush's energy policy has meant to America over the last seven years.

(All prices adjusted to current dollars).

Gasoline price the day Bill Clinton left office - $1.54/gallon
Gasoline price after five years of oil men Bush & Cheney - $3.16 (and climbing)
Increase in gasoline price - +105.2%

    Price of a barrel of crude 2001 - $27.29
    Price of a barrel of crude 2006 - $103.05
Increase in price of a barrel of crude - +277.6%

    Exxon share price 2001 - $40.83
Exxon share price now - $86.87
Increase in share price - 112.8%

    Exxon profits in 2000 - $18.8 billion
Exxon profits in 2007 - $40 billion (est)
    Increase in profits - 112.7%

My God Dan. When will you stop repeating other peoples propaganda, and start telling the relevant facts?

This is the most dangerous type of propaganda. It takes the truth, and assigns blame elsewhere.

Yes, oil prices are bad. So ing what. To blame it of president Bush & Co. is nonesense.

However. Look at the price during president Carter's time. It has a steep e, and came down after president Reagan returned the free market control of prices.

Now this peak you speak of during president Bush's time is office is very little the effect of anything that president Bush did, including the war. It has nothing to do with VP Cheney, or Exxon either. It is simple supply and demand economics tempered with the world value of the dollar!

Want to blame someone over it? Blame president Clinton and his treatment with China, granting favorable trade. China's commonly has exploded from all the exports to us. Fuel usage is growing something like an 18% per year. How does compound calculations work with 18%? Rather steep!

That's just a quick and dirty paste from Excel at 18% annual.

Look at that. About double every four years. About ten times every 14 years. This trend can continue for some time because of the excessive population of China. In 2006, China surpassed the USA in greenhouse gas emissions. They are using so much fuel today, and will use more and more as time goes by. They USA's growth only increases by a few percent each year. China's demand on the world oil market is the cause of high prices. Not president Bush.
