Because it was made in 1997 . . .
someone wanna clue me into why this didn't win the oscar for best picture and matt damon didn't win for best actor?
Thanks.
Just watched it for the first time tonight, and its become one of my top 5 favorite movies of all time.
Because it was made in 1997 . . .
I bet you like it because you are hot for Matt Damon and Ben Afflick. ing fruit.
Gus Van Sant's best film was "Elephant"
Fantastic film, but I don't know that I'd call it his best. I've always loved My Own Private Idaho.
That's my personal #2 film of his. Good choice.
As much as I loved Elephant, I couldn't get into Last Days, and to a lesser extent, Gerry at all.
And 1997 was the year of " anic"![]()
I still haven't seen Last Days, though I want to. I actually really liked Gerry, but I didn't realize it until the second time I saw it. The first time through, it seemed so tedious that it almost pissed me off, but it really stayed with me for some reason.
Elephant was great, but Good Will Hunting is my fav GVS movie.
Drugstore Cowboy is one of my favorite "downer" films; And To Die For is the only Nicole Kidman I have ever been able to sit thru 100% (no wait, I did like Dead Calm)
Sorry Im not a huge movie afficianado so I didn't know.
I saw the movie on the rack at Target, remembered some friends saying it was good and got it.
Sorry to post.
Where does GWH rank for you Cucking?
I'm interested to know because I've watched a few of some of the movies you reccommend and I love em too, would be interested in your opinion.
My top five of his films would probably be My Own Private Idaho, Elephant, To Die For, Drugstore Cowboy, and Good Will Hunting... but not necessarily in that order. So, it's definitely up there, but I'm too indecisive to rank it.
Drugstore Cowboy,
That wouldn't be a movie with Jeremy Piven in it would it?
No. Matt Dillon and Kelly Lynch star; movie's from 1989 (I think).
Hopefully these movies can be had on DVD.
Cucking, i know this sounds weird, what would be your top 5 all time movies?
This one for me vaulted into my top 5 all time.
New York, New York
Down By Law
A Streetcar Named Desire
Dead Man
Pulp Fiction
And my favorite director is probably Jim Jarmusch.
Ok Elephant ing sucked.
But seriously, Last Days was such a horrible ing movie that it made me almost want to call Courtney Love and have her come murder me too, ERRRRRRR commit suicide.
Good Will Hunting is great, even if it makes it seem like every problem in math can be solved with Maclaurin Series.
nice list.
Personally, my favorite Jarmusch film was Stranger than Paradise. I was ecstatic when criterion finally gave it a good dvd release. I wasn't too crazy about his first film, Permanent Vacation, but Jarmusch is one of the best out there

I love Stranger Than Paradise and have been meaning to update from my decrepit VHS copy, but haven't yet. The Criterion release of Down by Law is just breathtakingly gorgeous, though. Jarmusch's use of black & white is fantastic.
I loved Good Will Hunting too. It's probably in my top 20 but not my top 5.
Ok Baseline Hunting.![]()
