So much for the wounded tiger.
Dallas literally just looks like they dont give a . they arent playing with any effort, heart, nothing. they look completely careless on the floor. this is really getting annoying...
like they show that they are more than capable of being a great team, but they just seem to not give a anymore. i just don't get it...
Sounds like you're talking about the Suns.
I thought these trades were supposed to give the teams a spark?
Just WTF is Josh Howard anyway? An All-Star? A scrub? A role-player?
I'm thinking scrub.
Josh Howard and Avery Johnson are the 2 people I blame the most. Josh Howard looks like he doesn't care and Avery is just stupid.
how come every team the mavs play short handed steps up their game? but when the mavs our short handed, they always suck
Blocking Avery out?
No on-court leadership?
Hi Face!
o Jeff. How have your gigs at the Buffalo Wild Wings in Addison been going?
you're way off on this one, Jeff.
It's Avery.
The players tune him out. He makes terrible in-game decisions (why so many lineup changes last night?). He plays guys like Juwan Howard and Stackhouse when he has Magloire in a suit and a hungry Antoine Wright sitting on the bench. He yells about driving to the hole and playing better defense, but the players don't want to hear it because they're tired of his crap. He over-coaches. He micro-manages. Westphal hates the decision to come here because he doesn't get a say. He's going to piss away Kidd's last years because of his bull iso offense. He puts too much faith in his plan to be more "Spurs-like" by going with vets that he knows instead of seeing what else it out there. He's outcoached by sideline and booth reporters on TV because they see the obvious that Avery doesn't.
I don't care if they reel off the next 20 in a row - I don't think this team could handle yet another season with Avery at the helm.
Wow, talk about throwing in the towel. The team basically took the day off because Dirk wasn't there. We have no leader on this team. I never thought I would start to despise Avery but I am getting there. Pretty soon even the trainers will tune him out because the players sure have. Last night's game was pathetic. I sure don't plan on spending any money on them. We are headed for heartbreak once again. this!
I'd heard whisperings early on that Avery would struggle without Del Harris by his side. I brushed it off, I figured there's no way Harris had that much of an impact.
But now it's looking like the most important member of the coaching staff decided to take the year off.
Answer the question mother er.
Del is still in the building, though. He's likely to be found hanging out around the VIP dining area, with the courtside fans, before the game. For family reasons and the struggles of the time and travel involved with a long season, Del remains committed to his "advisor" role in the office. Westphal, Elie and Prunty can't crack Avery. Del was the only guy that could keep Avery straight and actually get a word in edge-wise. I have no doubts this team shapes up quickly if Del were to return to the bench.
The Mavericks? I thought this thread was going to be about yet another viral marketing site for TDK.
If I were a Mavs fan this game would really worry me too. This game was packed with reasons to come out fired up (nationally televised, division opponent just ahead of them, stepping up with a star player out) and instead they just laid a gigantic egg. Houston may have been the hottest team in the league, but the Rockets without Yao are not 15 points better than the Mavs without Dirk.
Exactly...maybe someone should get that memo to Avery and then ask him why the Juwan Howard is still getting minutes in the NBA.
Because of who you are and what you know, what are the chances that Avery is gone this summer and a seasoned, veteran coach is brought in to replace him? Surely Cuban is seeing what we are seeing. Even if we make the playoffs, how does any Mavs fan like the potential matchup of Avery versus Phil Jackson in a seven-game, oops, that is to say, a five-game series?
Avery has done a lot of good things in his tenure here, he brought a renewed focus and commitment to defense, and for most of his time here, he's been a great motivator. But the average life-span of a coach is about three years and for good reason. Avery's been here for three years, and on top of that, he's a control-freak perfectionist like Skiles or Fratello. I think Avery has a bright future as a coach in this league, and after the Mavs, he'll get a job again. But if Cuban couldn't wait on Devin Harris, why would he be willing to wait on Avery? I was 5 rows behind the bench at the Sacramento game, and Avery hardly ever sits down. He's calling out plays on nearly every Mavs possession. I tried to pay attention to Reggie Theus to see if he was as hands-on as Avery and I didn't get the impression that he was.
I would love to see JVG on our sidelines next year. He'll make these guys play defense, and he's not in love with "experience." And since he was the first person to implement the defense against Dirk that was later implemented by Miami and Golden State, I'm sure he has some ideas for how to counter it.
JVG would be interesting. Not sure what to think of him as coach of the Mavericks. Sometimes he seems brainless, but other times he makes some fantastic moves.
LOL some of you are making Avery out to sound like a deranged tyrant.
....
wouldn't surprise me though if it were true, I always thought Avery was a one-hit wonder kind of coach. Good for a run fueled by motivational phrases but ultimately coming up empty. Most of all, I always thought Avery was not a good fit for the Mavs and vice versa. He seems to try to mold his players into something they're not.
The best veteran coaches available are Larry Brown, Rick Carsisle and JVG. The whole "we're going to take it a little bit easier this regular season" worked out well in the most compe ive western conference race ever.
