It's definitely the offense which hasn't been on track of late. If you look at the years where the Spurs have struggled in the playoffs, it's been the years that the offense sputters for 5-7 minute stretches. Remind anyone of what we saw in the Phoenix game?

It's been a problem since..........dare I say it: Brent Barry went down (12/26 against Chicago). The Spurs were 20-7 at that point. They're 23-12 since. The point differential in those first 27 games was 7.37. Since then it's 4.09.

Bones can't come back soon enough. We miss him more than people realize.

The last 20+ win was against Charlotte 85-65 on Feb 19. As was pointed out by hater, the Spurs have substantially fewer wins of 20+ points this year than last year.

I think people are expecting way too much out of a guy who has been twice injured this season and who has not played in quite some time. It will be tough with only a couple of weeks left in the season to find him the minutes to get back fully into game shape- assuming he is even well enough to play right away.

Barry gives the Spurs someone else that can come in and shoot but he also provides a jump start to the offense through passing that only Manu surpasses on this team. The fact is that recently with Finely laying eggs on the offensive end we need more options off the bench. There are nights that some of our shooters will struggle, but the more you have on the bench the fewer nights you will have where they all struggle.

I can't agree with the OP more. The second unit is really missing Bones. I think Manu's super team really needs Bones as that second play maker and dead eye to be effective.

Whether Barry is as good as he was for those stretches remains to be seen, but here is hoping the injuries don't slow him down.

I think people who aren't Spurs fans spend way too much time ing about the team and constantly running them down.

I wonder what the rules are about him and being able to use the Spurs practice facility and practice with the team during the 30 day period.

    Spurs really need Barry.
It was obvious at the start of the 4th quarter. The whole offense was ed because Finley and Udoka weren't shooting wide open threes.
If Spurs shooters don't trust their shoot to a point they pass shoot they had to take, Spurs are in deep .

There have been several times in the past 3 games where the Spurs offense has looked horrendously stagnant. Finley is really really hurting us right now, and while Udoka's D has been good I'm not really liking his offense at all right now. Well, at times he looks ok but for the most part I think he's very inefficient at the offensive end.

Actually, Udoka's D I think has been pretty bad the last few games. He is constantly giving up and 1's because he loses position or turns his back on the offensive player as they make their move. It's one thing to give up the basket but to add a foul and free throw on top of it is just unacceptable. He needs to start either staying in front of his man or making sure, after he knows he is beat, start fouling hard enough to not allow the player to get a decent shot off...

That's exactly what happens often nowadays. Jump shooters are lacking confidence in their shots, pass up open threes and put the ball on the floor without any playmaking ability (the only pass they can make is a swing on the 3pt line) and then they shot it in traffic. Horry and Barry are the only ones I trust when they put the ball on the floor they'll either make a good read and pass the ball or get a layup or create a foul (not Finley, Udoka or Bonner).
The offense can definetely use another play maker.

How stupid can people be-- I love Brent Barry. I have defended him for years against all the people here who did not appreciate him. I thought he deserved to be the back up PG ahead of Beno, Nick, Jacque, and Damon. I am simply saying that people need to be realistic that do not know how well he will even be and how much playing time they can find for him to get into rhythm before the play-offs begin. There were stretches he hardly played before even when he was healthy and even before Udoka. It takes time to get back into NBA game shape no matter how much you work out, and how many minutes are there actually even available for him after you take into account Manu, Bruce, Finely, and Udoka.

Why do you think Kerr wanted Brent so bad. They are desperate for a play maker off the bench. You saw against the Suns: Nash sat out 9 minutes and they were -20. In the game +26. I think the Spurs were more interested in keeping him from Phoenix than how much they will actually use him- if recent history is any indicator.

I actually posted a couple weeks ago that we need Barry more to play some PG, because I do not see Stoudamire or Vaughn seeing much time at all in the playoffs.

Barry won't play it, due to he won't be able to guard the opposing team's point guards.

    What's this thread about again?

Bumped this in light of the 75 we put up in NO. Not that I believe he can turn this around by himself, but things tend to flow a of a lot more smoothly when he and Manu or he and Parker are out there in tandem.
