this is REALLY bad news... not we not only need to naturalize a PG but a replacement for Nocioni's breather on the bench.... Nationalize Jamario Moon!
BUENOS AIRES (Olympics) - Argentina have suffered another setback in their bid to retain their Olympic gold medal as Walter Herrmann has told coach sergio Hernandez that he is retiring from international basketball.
Herrmann helped the South Americans win the le in Athens and also played at the 2006 FIBA World Championship in Japan when the team finished fourth.
His decision comes soon after veteran guard Pepe Sanchez announced his retirement from the national side.
"He feels the need to be with his family and loved ones rather than playing in the national team," Hernandez revealed to Ole Newspaper.
"He told me that basketball is only a job for him, but he explained that the national can’t be considered a job, that it should be a breather, joy and pride but he doesn´t feel this way anymore."
The 28-year-old Herrmann, a former star in Spain´s ACB, is in his second NBA season.
He had an outstanding rookie year with the Charlotte Bobcats but was traded in the middle of this season to the Detroit Pistons.
Herrmann suffered an enormous personal tragedy in 2003 when his mother, sister and girlfriend died in a car accident. The following year, Herrmann was voted most valuable player of Argentina´s South American Championship winning side only to discover after the game that his father had passed away from a heart attack. He nevertheless played at the Athens Games.
"I don´t want to analyse Walter´s mental state," Hernandez said."Walter sees it as a definite retirement, I saw him very determined but I wouldn´t be so definitive. As an Argentinian, I have the hope that he will reconsider because he is young."

im sorry but your sig confuses me
tell me how can i help explain which one of the messages...
Great News!!! He'll be rested and healthy for the Pistons when they resign him for next year!
a guy with no more heart for the game and out of rhythm? i wouldn't be THAT happy... i would be happy for Team USA though... Hermann is one of the reasons they lost in Greece...
If you were Walter, would you re-sign with Detroit? He can't get playing time even when Jarvis Hayes has sucked. And, Ratliff and Dixon get playing time as soon as they are acquired. I don't think Walter is coming back to the Pistons next year and it will be more his decision than the Pistons.
He was actually playing very well at the end of last year. Too bad Sam Vincent didn't like him with Charlotte this year, and that he had absolutely no chance whatsoever to play with the Pistons. I do agree that he would be a fool to try to come back with the Pistons.
Hayes will be gone. We'll need a backup SF.
I wouldn't be convinced if I was Walter, especially if Flip Saunders is still the coach. There have been several times in the second half of the season he deserved at least a chance to play and he wasn't given one. I would not re-sign with Detroit if I were him.
It's become pretty clear to me that Flips' rotation decisions have a whole lot of Dumars say so in them. And I've come to believe that we stick w/ Hayes so much out of some sort of loyalty. I believe Dumars wants to make sure that a free agent that he signed, and promised a role to, actually plays that role.
I may be totally wrong, but that's the vibe I get.
There is no way Hermann stays with the Pistons after they screwed him this year. Hey, we'll take Fabio here in Houston![]()
