Byron Scott has no answer for the spurs. Pop figured the hornets out and they have not made any adjustments yet to turn this around. Scott is being severly out coached. How much of this is on him?

all of it. the hornets have the talent and mismatches to beat the spurs but it all comes down to coaching. i never wouldve though the mavericks couldve beat the spurs in 06 but because of great coaching they beat us in 7.

Meh.. I think he deserved to be name the COTY (of the regular season). And he did out-coach Pop during the first two games..

First: Can we please win the series (that means four games) before making proclamations like these? We're currently tied with the Hornets in wins and losses.

Second: The COTY award is a regular season award. The Playoffs have nothing to do with it.

Third: The COTY award is relatively meaningless in historical terms. Do you remember how many times Phil Jackson, Red Auerbach, Pat Riley or Jerry Sloan won this award? Do you care? It's a nice way of rewarding coaches who were able to help a team exceed expectations, which the Hornets certainly did this year.

COY is never about who is the best coach. It is alway about which coach took a team that had low expectations pre season and helped them win more games than anyone expected.

This explains why Phil Jackson and Pop have won 2 between them, and Jerry Sloan has never won it even once.

It is the biggest crock of poop of any award.

Aren't they usually given to up-n-coming coaches anyway (e.g., Avery, D'Antoni - although both are not with their same team now)?

Honestly Maurice Cheeks should've won it, but I have nothing against Byron Scott winning it, hes a damn good coach, and did a damn fine job this year.

Agreed, this has nothing to do with who is the *best* coach in a given year. If it were, Byron Scott wouldn't have won the award. I have a lot of respect for him, but I'm not going to say he's the best coach in the NBA.

Byron Scott simply took the Hornets way beyond what anyone estimated, so he won the award, that's all. Just because he's "only" tied with the current defending NBA champions, he doesn't deserve that?

In my opinion, Byron Scott is below only Pop, Sloan and Jackson as far as current NBA head coaches.

Silly Spurminator!! Don't you know that 2 big wins at home are proof that a series is over? Just look at what happened when the Hornets blew out the Spurs twice at home in Games 1 and 2 the 2008 WCSF. I mean, seriously!

Had Duncan not been sick the first two games, then the New Orleans Hornets would have been swept out of the playoffs by now. Spurs would have won both of those games handily and now sitting around waiting for the Lakers or Jazz.

It's a stupid award. Byron Scott isn't an above-average coach. The NBA coach is the most unimportant coach in all of sports. There are only a handful of difference-makers out there, and the awards are a popularity contest.

That said, Scott was just as deserving of the award as any previous winners were, so let him have it. It's sad that he'll never be able to look at the award without thinking about being eliminated by the Spurs.

no, it's a regular season award bandwagoner.

Last time I checked the road teams haven't won in this series and by my count N.O. has one more home game than the Spurs do. I hate these threads that are already chalking up the series to San Antonio. Bad mojo....I'm glad this one was started by a diehard Sonics fan.
