I was wondering if someone would have the kindness to explain me how the NBA calendar is working ...

I m deeply interested in NBA for like 1 years but i still dont understand how the NBA schedule works.

Why and when are some western teams playing some easterns ? do they play every teams, from east and west, twice (like in football/soccer)?

    Best regards.

This year the divisions have changed. That has caused some changes in matchups within the conference.

    To start off ..welcome.

Each team plays a home and away game against teams from the other conference.
Ex. Spurs play the New York Knicks twice, once at home and once away.

(based on old scheduling, i think within the division it remains the same)
Spurs play teams within their division(Southwest) 4 times each. 2 home, 2 away.

Within the conference some teams are scheduled for 4 games while others are scheduled for 3 games(phoenix). I don't know how it is decided..maybe random.

As for when they play teams from other conferences ..it is random. However some matchups with history or possible playoff implications are conveniently scheduled for holidays, national broadcasts and the end of the season.

    Thanks a lot.

Anyway, if i may, those matchup schedules are particulary strange and pretty unclear for NBA unpros.
