Even before tipoff, Jackson acknowledged Gasol’s reputation. “I think,” Jackson said, “that’s one of the reasons perhaps we were fortunate enough to get him. … That perhaps he was not a center … he wasn’t tough enough to be a center.”
From Yahoo!Sports article by Johnny Ludden.

Pretty harsh, but fairly accurate. After watching Gasol in these Finals, do people still think he was a "Steal?"

The real Pau Gasol has shown up...still, he is a major upgrade from Kwame Brown.

he is a steal unless you consider kwame = gasol. kwame is a former number 1 pick.

if he's not a center, what is he?

He's definitely a steal. When I saw the game, Pau wasn't the major problem. Yes he isn't a defensive juggernaut, but he's too slight to defend guys like Amare, Duncan.

Pau kept the game close, and he sure as did a better job than Kobe.

Kobe - Gasol = 2007 Lakers. At least they have an inside presence on O.

A big man who can pass, finish, and rebound.

Phil Jackson's just tough on his players.

Actually part of Phil's quote was cut off. Here is the entire quote:

Even before tipoff, Jackson acknowledged Gasol’s reputation. “I think,” Jackson said, “that’s one of the reasons perhaps we were fortunate enough to get him. … That perhaps he was not a center … he wasn’t tough enough to be a center. He's actually a big pussy. A poor man's Dirk Nowinski”

"Fortunate to get him....but not tough enough to be a center"

Damning with faint praise is a risky ploy, Guru Phil.

He did call Kwame gay right? Imagine the locker room atmosphere in LA, there's Bryant who keeps on ing on his team mates and a coach who calls out his players to the media.

They wouldn't be in the Finals without Gasol.

Gasol is playing out of position. When he's paired with Bynum it will erase a lot of his deficiencies.

The Fakers really misses Bynum. Which is why I considered to be somewhat defensively deficient. Which further led me to believe the Spurs would've had an easier time. Wrong!

Anyway, my first theory is proven correct. The Fakers are not the stellar defensive team the national media tried to make them out to be. The fact of the matter is the Celtics have been the best defensive team in the league ALL SEASON. They're proving why that's been the case.

Yes. He's clearly not the franchise player that Memphis was hoping for, but the Lakers don't get out of the second round with a starting front line of Odom/Turiaf.
