Which acquisitions must the team prioritize?
- a shot-blocking center with a good low-post game and decent mid-range shot
- a pass-first backup point guard preferably with 3-point range
- an long athletic SF with the ability to slash to the rimj
- a jumpshooting SG
........
getting longer and younger - stop settling for "smart" players with little athletic ability. We have a great defensive system, but if we can't score we put ourselves in a hole that's hard to get out of. Oberto's a liability and that needs to be addressed - I don't want to hear about how he's a great passer and he's effective in certain scenarios. Our Big 3 needs help and that has to come from players that are able to rebound and defend driving players and jump shots in the paint. If we get KT back, he'll be useful but not as a starter - you're livin in a dream world if you think that after training camp and half a season he'll magically become a factor. We need players that can crash the rim and grab rebounds because of their length. Good big men don't need to have an outside shot necessarily - they just need to be able to contribute by putting in close second chance shots and grabbing rebounds (hopefully offensive rebounds.) Posey's an exception, but I'd take Poe or Perkins in a second.
Apart from the obvious needs that's been often stated, a sharp-shooter that's pretty much atomatic when left open. Every series the Spurs got a ton of open three's and mid-range shots that they just couldn't capitalise on. Would of made life a lot easier for Manu and Tony when attacking the rim.
a long athletic 3 with 3pt range.
....... and a healthy manu.
Win a championship.
Get more offensive help for their Big 3
Say goodbye to Finley and Horry
question is, can the spurs use the draft to fill their biggest need: long and athletic 3? Batum, perhaps?
With the luxury tax not being an issue next season, can the Spurs use some money to soften up the playoff schedule-makers?
Get younger. Get a good draft prospect and develop him during the regular season so he can provide energy and minutes. And yes, keep the team healthy specially Manu with the Olympics coming.
I'd like to see Pop take a page from Phil's book.....and actually give the bench some decent (mainly rookies and younger players). At least for the regular season...
