So they get Gasol for the turnover machine, an unused rookie and two draft picks.

They give players away now? WTF? What was Memphis thinking? Not sure what other assets they have for another trade that might make this one make more sense.

UNBEAVABLE. This just makes the top half of the West even more ridiculously tough. I just knew the Lakers would get real good at the same time we're getting good.

Memphis got a steal…Kwame has finally learned how to dominate the paint…And Lamar, Luke & Shasha are all screaming for the ball…Is there even room on the Lakers for another shooter?

Is this the last year of Kwame's contract? It does move a load of money out if his contract if its up sometime in the next 2 years. You end up with a solid backcourt and deep bench backcourt in an era that really lacks talent at the PG position. You move money from an area that is unsuccessful and have the potential to land some key FA. You also have some additional draft options that could be packaged later. I agree they could have gotten more but they have some serious leverage now with an enticing core of young talent and loads of cap room.

Memphis did exactly what they wanted to do. Dump salary to land a good FA this off-season, get a good young prospect combo guard in Javaris, and some draft picks from the Lakers. They are in a good position to rebuild around the young nucleus they have now.

Memphis could possibly be the next Portland in two years. All I'm saying is that its not that bad considering the team struggled anyway.

Marc Gasol is also a solid prospect and could become a very nice player.
