AVG is pretty good as far as free ones go. I used it on my old computer. You can get it at grisoft.com. There's also avast but I haven't tried that one.

I only use avast! home - it's the best. I used AVG for awhile but it can be a resource hog. Avast updates almost daily (the virus DB) and I've never gotten a virus while using it ... scans pretty quick too.
Install this

run a Full scan
then paste in here what you found.
I worked on a womans pc last week and she had Avast, and I still found 182 Infections using

That's spyware - avast! doesn't scan for that stuff, but it is a very comprehensive VIRUS scanner. Get a dedicated spyware tool to keep that crap off.I worked on a womans pc last week and she had Avast, and I still found 182 Infections using

Good advice. A lot of people don't understand that you need both an AV scanner and a spyware scanner. "But I had Norton Antivirus, how does this stuff get on my machine." My brother had so much crap on his machine, it took me the better part of a day to get it off. He visited a lot of porn/gambling sites and they are just full of spyware.

I hate when someone makes a "help me" topic and then you take time from your day to help them and they never post if they took your advise or not.
I also have ZoneAlarm if you want to know each time someone is checking out your IP or looking into your PC, It will post the IP of that person,
run one of the scans I posted and copy and paste what you found so I know you used the service, kinda like this.

Alwil Avast is the best for viruses and Windows Defender and Spybot search and destroy are the best for spyware among free ones according to the consumer reports website. I also use Norton's and Spy Doctor which I pay for because I am paranoid but you maybe could get by using those three free ones if you're careful.
