This is just an awful take. Lonnie can rise up and get his shot off with more ease than probably anyone on the team. Problem is he's been completely neutered and led to believe that he's in there to play defense. He's naturally hesitant the 10% of the time that he actually touches the ball. The other 90% of the time he has no plays run for him, basically stands in the corner without even touching the ball.
It's also really clear that his defense feeds off his offense. He had a nice driving score tonight and his defensive intensity immediately increased afterwards...

You just can't change a guy's stripes and it's a coach's job to know how to put a young player in the best position to succeed which in Lonnie's case is to run some plays for him to get his rhythm/juice going. Just a really awful handling of Lonnie this year by Pop.

Quick detour from all the negativity....props to Patty tbh.

He obviously got overpaid and I've on him in the past but Bryn's existence in this world makes me appreciate Patty 100000x more in pretty much every aspect of life and basketball.

You act like when he rises up he doesnt clank those shots. Dude takes shots out of rhythm frequently. I really dont understand why people find it hard to accept that Lonnie just doesnt have the skills yet and instead go for the woe is me route / player coddling as if these arent grown ass men who, if they were true ballers, would have rose to the occasion by now. The lack of skill is EVIDENT. Dejounte is a twig out there who gets scared of contact. Fact. Lonnie is also scared of contact and has no ing idea how to slither through defenses unless theres a wide open lane where he uses his speed to get past his man. Fact.

The Clippers played playoff style defense in the 2nd half and Demar was unsurprisingly shut down.

This is what you get from him, it's why his last 2 months have been fool's gold and why this dumbass FO should have traded him a week ago.

But they need to go 1-7 on the RRT and let the trade deadline pass before the morons wake up
Did you not see the clippers just stack their defense. This is what happens when Spurs roll players are not shooters. DD has no where to go.

We need more players who have natural feel for the game. The whole iq of the team is so low, that is why we have these meltdowns in the second half of games. We have dumbass players. Rudy is one of the main culprits, dude was a career black hole on offense who's advanced statistics have always sucked. I miss the days when we made smarter plays and minimal mistakes as a team.

He makes his fair share of those pullups too. You're still missing the point though. All those shots, even the ones he makes, are basically him going one on one. Put guys like Wombat and especially Brent in those same situations and they'd vomit all over themselves. Literally wouldn't even be able to get their shot off.

Get Lonnie in some pnr action or have him come off some screens before getting the ball like what is done for thse other guys then get back to me. Run plays to put him in advantageous situations.

Not trying to say he's a finished product. I mean, he's 20 and only has like a quarter of a season with semi regular minutes under his belt ffs. Obviously he has room for improvement. Agree that he has to work on his finishing around the rim. Still, you have to be really dumb to not be able to see his natural scoring ability, tbh.

Trade him...he has had solid seasons with raptors and no one took them seriously...dude was benched in a game 7
So was Derrick White, tbh. We don't have any prime time studs in our roster.

A funny moment in the game tonight. You know how, after a whistle blows, a guy may go ahead and take a shot for the heck of it. Patty did that at a certain point. The defender who was just standing there in front of him reached up and blocked it.

You notice how, out along the arc, Murray will get a screen set for him, and so will White, and Upchuck, and Patty, but Lonnie never does? That's on the coach.

It was actually Brent. Unless it happened to Patty too? I remember it because Brent gave Harkless this goofy ass grin after he blocked it and Harkless gave him a "STFU you suck" look.

I think it's mostly due to the fact that when the ball ends up in Lonnie's hands it's usually either a kick out from someone else's penetration or just a broken play late in the shot clock.

The fact that some posters judge his offensive game on those type of possessions is just absurd.

Pop actually giving Lonnie Credit for his Defense and "he has earned those(Crunch time) Minutes...."
Thanks for posting. Gregg was unusually talkative in this video. Though him humiliating that lady at 1:30 was hard to watch. Come on Gregg humor that poor woman why don't you.

It's definitely by design. They running no plays for him and when he does get it , he not even looking for his own. Lonnies been left in no doubt. When Rudy, pattyy and DWhite are on the court. They are the preference. Hard to get any rhythm on 1 or 2 shots a half and usually as the last resort.

It would be short sighted to think this is Lonnie struggling. It is what pop wants. I hate it but whatever gets him mins and less of Bryn.

As per usual , spurs kept it compe ive in the 4th, almost won a winnable again. Patty had a great look on a three to win the game.

To beat the best. You gotta play your best. When the clippers made their run in the 3rd POP stopped being cute and played his best lineups . The rotation spot on too.. He needs that approach for a 4full quarters if they serious about the playoffs.

good game ... the poor stretch to start the 3rd quarter made the game IMO ... Pop played a solid lineup to close the game ...

    Poeltl needs more minutes ...

so, when we had the lead end of the fourth we should go with Murray over Mills to close the game?

Yep he has all those offensive tools that mute cancer had to work YEARS to obtain NATURALLY but pop has gotten in his head and he is not using them.... Other Than Demar he is the only other guy who can break down a Defense and drive to the bucket.... White...kinda sorta.... and its awkwardly ugly.... while Lonnie truly is a Sky Walker with it.

Anybody with half a brain can see it, but SPURS TALK...
Yap this aspect of Lonnie walker game is so underutilized, yet it's the part of the game the spurs really don't get enough of.

Atleast he getting credit for the Defense.

A coach like Doc, Jackson, Nelson can see this because they played the game at the highest levels but Pop hasn't he has WORST FEEL for the FLOW of the game of Any Pro Head Coach....... Bad Time outs when teams are on runs just to yell about some he perceived as a big deal.... Its been years since he is over .500 on his out time out play calls.....

The team could go on a 20-0 run to lead by a large margin but the moment the other team scores a 3 he'll call timeout to tell at someone and kill the momentum lol. That don't fly anymore.

I agree. Lonnie is scared to improvise/ordered not to take shots he wants and the main thing he seems not to understand how to move without the ball and to take correct decisions quickly with the ball. Big lack of team chemistry so far (thanx Pop). Even Lyles is much better in this aspect.

Yes, this roster is straight up trash. I’m good with getting rid of the entire roster. White is ok, Poetl is ok, Walker is almost ok but I don’t have any strong feelings about keeping them. Get rid of them if we can get value

Or, He didn't play the duo a good 10 minute stretch in the 2nd half, he was trending up last 4 games and he went the other way...Despite the whole 18 down to 20+ up results of last game......
    That’s Greg for you.

But hey, he’s still experimenting with the lineups for the playoffs ya know, 49 games into the season.

I only saw the last 4 mins but it looked to me like ddr got jobbed on his drive just under a minute left (jump ball). Did pop have a challenge available? Pisses me off there was no replay with a better angle.

Jesus. You are terrible at analyzing players.

Do you think Nephew did what he does now his first few years with the Spurs?
