Yeah, I can't argue. I just checked his stats, and he obviously worked on those FT's. Give the man credit.
Like I said, there are nights it seems like he never leaves the paint and gets by with a ton of contact. And if he was in silver and black, I wouldn't complain. He's as old school as they get, and tonight he showed that there's still a place for that.
Murray is developing his shot. He shoots better than 48% from 2 and almost 37% from 3. his TS% is a very respectable .539. All of those are better than last season, although his rookie year he shot a surprising 39% from 3. I have never been a fan, but I root for him. I don't see him as a PG at all, and I think his shooting would improve greatly if he were relieved of the additional responsibilities of learning to be a PG which is not a natural position for him. Conversely, I think the Old Asshole is screwing both him and Derrick by not installing Derrick as the starting PG, where he has a far better natural ap ude.
I wasn't clear. I meant he hits Js from around the FT line; he has 12-14 foot range.
Pop has to start playing the young guys more going forward, need to have a contingency plan after missing the playoffs.
Murray, White and Walker are a very awkward fit together, as bad as it gets for a young core from a fit perspective, but you need to figure out who you're going to build with for the future. Forbes is a finished product, don't waste any more time on Rudy Gay or Belinelli, etc.

I don't know why Pop subbed White who was on the roll with Murray, that stopped Spurs' offensive flow. Then aggravated with Forbes who kept getting burned on defense. That's when Spurs lost the game.
When you shoot 44.6% and let the other team shoot 53.3%, you're gonna lose the game. No big mystery.
I commented on one Portland 3P during the game. The Spurs defenders were all compressed along the baseline. Portland could have had an uncontested 3 pretty much anywhere along the arc. I don't think there was a Spur within 10 feet of that shooter.

Pop has been doing this for years. How many times did he pull the same with Kawhi. He doesn’t believe in hot or flow, unless it’s giving the other team all the credit.

Not just rotations, but Pop needs to start experimenting stylisticslly, as well. He needs to figure out what the optimal system for Murray and Walker will be offensively, figure out whether the team needs to play with more pace or a defensive style, etc.
Stop catering to Aldridge and his post touches, start spreading around and looking towards next year, figure out the strengths of the younger players(if they have any).
I hate the homer Spurs media guys as much as I hate the Old Asshole. I am so sick of those guys saying about an opponent "can't take them lightly" as if this Spurs team was still a dominant force in the league and not the lottery team we are.

For that matter whether it be White, Murray or Lonnie IV why do they always have to be paired with a midget? Creates a virtual 4 on 5 defense. Portland very much a 3 point shooting team. So Grandpa counters with a midget on the floor.
Gotcha. I remember one, but I believe you. I'm getting to the point my senses are sort of dulled anyway. This is getting old. Gary Trent is averaging 6 points and 1.3 made 3's for the season. Tonight he had 18 points on 6-7 from the arc. This team just keeps making opponents look like HOF candidates.
I just did a quick check on Whiteside's stats and, yeah, he's improved his shooting from pretty much everywhere. He's leading the league in blocks, too. Looks to me like the biggest reason to dislike him is that he's on the other team.

This team is flawed in a lot of ways but Brent is by far the biggest flaw. There's always a lot of finger pointing at this guy for clanking a few shots, that guy for not being a cold blooded closer, or this guy for being soft. All of that pales in comparison to Brent. It is truly impressive how much this mother er sucks. I have never seen someone's individual defense weigh a team down so much. It's hard to put into words just how much he sucks. You can always count on him to vomit all over himself on offense (his supposed strength) at least a couple times per game too.
Pop is a ing idiot. I truly think he takes his "if you don't hit threes in today's league, you don't win" bull literally. Like he actually thinks Brent hitting three threes helps even if he's directly responsible for like 35 points on the other end.
I think the two have to be grouped as the biggest thing wrong with the Spurs. You can't talk about one without talking about the other.
I agree its time to play the young guys more...the point is that next season, expecially if DDR opts in, we're back with the last seasons of DDR, LMA and Rudy (plus Carroll). If this one we're living is a lottery season (and at this point I don't see a lot of chances we can avoid it) with the team trying to behave in a reaching play offs mode, next one will probably be a necessary tanking season...I say this because its now becoming clear as daylight the lack of talent this team has...
That said, I can't see buyers in the summer for the corpse of Gay and Carroll, nor a trade package enticing enough for selling LMA and an opting in DDR.
Its possible then that at some point some radical choice will be made...but just out of desperation.
So the so told firesale could be coming...once the FO realizes that veterans are no longer deserving playing time if they don't buy in a teaching the young guys role (and franckly in LMA, DDR and Gay I don't see any will of teaching anything...they have always been finished products with a me first mentality, aka the usual veteran nba player).
I repeat I say this because its now clear as daylight the lack of talent this team has...and that the veterans we have are that good that they can lead you to a 10 place at best in a stronger than last year western conference.
The problem will be that all of our old veterans will be in their contract year...so I see no way they will behave in the right way, letting the young guys play and develop while they seniors are rotting on the bench and so making no numbers in hope of a last decent contract...
They're replaying the game now. I'm thinking about watching it again to see if the Spurs can get their together.
Seriously, no trolling, if we end up with a top 10 pick, does he get DNP-CD out the gate or sent straight to the G-league no matter what and be deemed ready in 3 years?

Good point, didn't think about that, I fully agree that I can't picture Aldridge or Gay taking on mentor roles in a contract year. DeRozan won't and shouldn't as he still has the potential for 1 more big contract.
Pop has really dug himself in a deep hole with this roster construction and uncertainty of the future. He hasn't even given himself a chance to evaluate the young players to a full extent, either. This is why I think he's going to surprise us and retire sooner than expected IMO.
