No, but he's a solid choice. He didn't get the fair shake in Golden State. I thought he was always underrated.

The Sacramento Kings hired Memphis Grizzlies assistant Eric Musselman on Friday as their new head coach, two people with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press.
Musselman coached the Golden State Warriors from 2002-04 and had emerged as a leading candidate to replace Rick Adelman in Sacramento. He'd had a second interview this week with the Maloof family, who own the team, at the family's casino in Las Vegas.
The Kings planned a news conference Saturday to announce the deal, according to the two people, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
According to ESPN.com's Marc Stein, Musselman accepted when offered the job Friday morning. Contract details are still being finalized.
The Kings parted ways May 9 with Adelman, who won 395 games in eight consecutive winning seasons in Sacramento. The Kings, who lost to San Antonio in the first round of the playoffs, had the NBA's only coaching vacancy.
The Kings also interviewed Golden State assistant Mario Elie and Sacramento Monarchs coach John Whisenant for the job.
Musselman spoke Thursday with the entire Maloof clan -- including Colleen Maloof, mother of the four sons who preside over the family's extensive business empire -- and president of basketball operations Geoff Petrie.
Musselman was an assistant in Minnesota, Orlando and Atlanta before being hired to coach Golden State, where he went 75-89. Though his teams were more compe ive than any Warriors clubs in the previous half-decade, he was fired when he clashed with players and incoming boss Chris Mullin.
He's currently the top assistant in Memphis coach Mike Fratello's defense-heavy system.
Whisenant, a longtime family friend of the Maloofs who never played or coached in the NBA, was thought to be the family's choice for the job last weekend. But after the Monarchs' WNBA win over Seattle on Wednesday night, Whisenant said he wasn't scheduled for a second interview in Las Vegas.
Musselman might be a decent defensive coach with the right personnel (and Ron Artest - not you - will make him look better, especially if Miller is replaced by someone who plays like he's 7 feet tall), but he's hardly a Larry Brown.
I think he's a pretty good coach, though. He has some quirks, and a personality that may or may not become a problem with the Tru Warier and Bonzi, but he's definitely a better choice than Don Nelson or that geriatric from the WNBA. The superior management alone will allow him to do better in Sacto than he did in Golden State, but I think he'll prove himself.

its all about the personell he has. and with artest and bonzi he will have a much better defense to work with.
i am satisfied with this decision. i suppose at this point i am just happy they didnt get coach whiz. i agree with oli about moving miller asap. next season will be very interesting.
An unbelievably stupid hire. Musselman is not easy-going enough to handle Artest and Bonzi. Sacto will be a train wreck waiting to happen next season.

I almost saw every Warriors game when Musselman was here for a couple of years. He might have picked up a few things from Memphis, but a defensive coach he is not.
your using the warriors as your point? hes gonna have verterans here named ron artest. they said he stresses defense and he made that warrior team play hard. something adelman didnt always do. hater
He didn't have defensive players. And him and J.Richardson had because Richardson refused to play defense.

I believe in his last year as head coach he was runner up for coach of the year behind Pop.
I don't mean having 5 Bruce Bowens on the court, but he didn't really have a defensive system in place when he was with GSW.
He stressed pre-game preparation and bringing a lot of energy to the court, but he was not a great game-time X's and O's coach.
well weill see the defense and energy the kings have next year. then you will eat crow with sugar on top.
