In 94, the US was also at home. US teams have played like ass in Europe historicaly. Hopefully they turn that around, but the crowds are not going to root for us. Thats for damn sure.

The Lightning Seeds, "Three Lions" was such a kick ass song in 98.

It is obviously not an official song, since it is referring to english football, but a great football song none the less.

Just got invited to a World Cup party next Saturday to watch Trinidad and Tobago play Sweden. It's going to be awesome because the husband of the couple who are throwing the party is from Trinidad and has been on cloud nine since they qualified (in November, I think it was?), not to mention obsessed with each and every decision made by the T&T coach and each workout session of the team. There's going to be Trinidadian rum, curried goat (a national dish?!?) and who the knows what else. Can't wait!

The USA isn't scoring enough goals. They are only averaging 1 goal a game in their last 6 games and most games are against non world cup teams.

The USA with its arrogant pride has a way of ruining the event if they advance. Most people in other countries dislike the USA and would like the USA out of the first round. Thanks to our dumbass politicians and the people who voted them in.

Everyone knows the FIFA rankings are bogus. The only reason why the US is ranked above teams like England and Argentina is because they play all year round in Concacaf against teams like Trinidad & Tobago, Jamaica, Panama, etc. Meanwhile teams in Conmebol have to compete against Brasil, Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay etc, and teams in UEFA play against the likes of England, France, Holland, Germany, Italy, Croatia, etc.

Its true that the ranking takes some measures to level the playing field sort of speak, but they aren't nearly enough to accurately depict the strength of each team.

Anyone who knows anything about football knows England is several times better than the US, and yet if you were to judge by the ranking one would think the US the far greater team.

Here's an interview on si.com with Ronaldinho. Some quotes from it:

When the finest soccer player on Earth arrives for an interview, you half-expect him to be wearing some sort of iconic signifier, like the Pope's miter or Miss Universe's sash or a boxer's championship belt. Something, in other words, that says, Behold, the king of the world.

But here comes Brazil's Ronaldinho, the two-time reigning World Player of the Year, wearing nothing of the sort. He's decked out in NBA/hip-hop mode: a black Air Jordan ensemble, LeBron James signature shoes and enough ice -- a diamond-studded crucifix, a platinum R10 medallion and a carat-covered watch -- to make Allen Iverson blush.

    And:
SI.com: What are your impressions of the United States?

Ronaldinho: I love the United States. I've been there with the Brazilian national team and with Barcelona. I've never had the satisfaction of going there for free time, but that's one of the plans I have, to go there and get to know the U.S. And to see basketball, which is something I love. One of my dreams is to see live basketball there, but I've never had the time or the opportunity.
But read the whole thing. It's got some great links to some You Tube clips, especially of one of Ronaldinho doing his elástica move in the air.

Don't tread on us is some patriotic American slogan said by I don't know who(will have to look that up) but I know it has some historical significance.

I remember it being on some type of flag with a snake.

Are you ready for some FUTBOL????????

A week from today the world will stop! Hopefully, all the craziness that's around will just fade away (at least for one month) and we'll all be able to enjoy this wonderful sport.

I tell you, I can't wait for this WC to start. I'm very anxious and, in a weird way, I'm kind of glad the Spurs lost because now I can completely focus on one sport.

I got my Argentina jersey ready, I've warned my bosses about my availability for the next month, I sent my whole family to Japan, and I'm just ready to sit on my couch and scream as many goals as possible. I have a pretty mixed group of friends and we'll all meet at my house to watch games of Argentina (my favorite team), Japan (second favorite), Costa Rica, Paraguay, France and, of course, the USA.

BTW, It's great to have this forum available!

It's "Don't tread on me" (or "Don't tread upon me") The phrase is from the Revolutionary War. The Rattlesnake (specifically the Timber Rattlesnake) signified resistance to British rule. It was uniquely American, slow to violence unless threatened and just kind of badass looking.

The 13 segments of the rattle signified the 13 original colonies. The phrase "Don't tread on me" was meant as a message to the British; Try to put us under your boot and we'll have no choice but to strike back.

It was used with the Gadsden Flag:

    And the first Navy Jack:

And of course the current US Soccer campain by Nike:

My best buddy is from Costa Rica, he's there right now and won't be back until the 10th, so we won't be able to watch the game together, but I'll be pulling for you guys! We have a couple of ticos playing for our team here in Salt Lake. I'll be wearing the new CR jersey as well!

That's awesome! I'll go next time they make it to the WC be it 4, 8, 50 years from now!

Where did you get your jersey from though? Is it any of these? The ones that cost around $70....

    http://www.worldsoccershop.com/shop-...onal-team.html

Speaking of which.. I see that you're saying you're in SLC. How's the Tico population there (size wise)? Sorry about the questions but if you know us Ticos, you know we have a lot of national pride.
