My guess is he's incredulous that someone could miss what BB was doing with the Italian numbers. If you have a different explanation, I'd love to see it.
My view is that he was illustrating how the infection will likely spread in the US in a way similar to Italy and that no one should expect the number of infected and dead to stay low. If it's some kind of tangent, it's still worth discussing in a coronavirus thread.
