Unarmed Black dad and 10-year-old son returning U-Haul truck are shot at by white couple
Charles McMillon Jr., his 10-year-old son, and Kendrick Clemons had just dropped off a U-Haul van at Fountain Plaza parking lot, in Tallahassee, Florida, when suddenly bullets began whizzing around them.
McMillon and the two others were reportedly sitting in the truck, typing in mileage onto the app, the way rentals like this work, when
Wallace Fountain and his wife, Beverly Fountain, began shooting at them.
According to the Tallahassee Democrat, the Fountains are the owners of the strip mall and had decided to set up a vigilante sting, hiding inside of another U-Haul vehicle.
The couple told authorities that they did this in order to stop people from syphoning off and stealing gas.
Of course, McMillion, his son, and his friend weren’t doing anything illegal.
In fact, they seem to be the only group of people in that parking lot following the law.

On Tuesday, Clay Higgins —
a Trump loyalist who represents Louisiana’s 3rd District in the United States House of Representatives —
posted a photo on Facebook of armed Black demonstrators three states away in Kentucky protesting the police killing of Breonna Taylor.
In his Facebook post, Higgins threatened any Black protesters carrying guns in Louisiana (an open carry state, by the way):

- Higgins, who has worked as a police officer himself, makes a show of wearing a gun when he’s out and about in Louisiana.
- Apparently, his support of the 2nd Amendment and his adherence to laws against threatening to kill people do not extend to African Americans.
- His post was so blatantly racist and violent that Facebook deleted it.
- So Higgins followed up with another Facebook post saying “I’ll advise when it’s time [to] gear up, mount up, and roll out.”
This all follows Donald Trump — the President of the United States — praising the teenage vigilante charged with murdering two protesters last week in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

Only 3 percent of loans worth $150,000 or more went to black-owned businesses, according to Charlotte-based WCNC, which analyzed loans awarded to small businesses that included race on their applications. Of the 2,026 small business owners and nonprofits who got the loans, only 64 of them were black, and 1,791 were white.
In Tennessee, the story was much the same. When a Nashville Fox News affiliate compared the amounts of small business emergency aid given out to businesses in black communities in the city to those in whiter, wealthier parts of town, it found “a huge [negative] discrepancy when it comes to historically black neighborhoods.”
This pattern held true on the other side of the country where San Diego public media station KPBS reported, “Storefronts in underserved communities south of I-8 couldn’t get any money.”
In heartland Kansas City, KCTV reported, out of 4,677 emergency loans given to small businesses in the region, less than 5 percent went to minority-owned small businesses, and only 24—less than 0.5 percent—went to black-owned firms.
In Milwaukee, Wisconsin, NBC affiliate WTMJ-TV reported, “Only 17 business owners identified as African American, representing 0.62 percent” of small businesses, were loan recipients.
According to a nationwide survey conducted by Color of Change and UnidosUS, only 12 percent of black and Latinx business owners who applied for federal small business loans received the full amount of their requested relief.
As a summary of that survey states, “Almost two-thirds… [of black and Latinx small business owners surveyed] report they have either received no assistance (41 percent) or are still waiting to hear whether they will receive any federal help (21 percent).”
