Mavs fans, I wanted to ask your opinions:
If you were Greg Popovich or R. C. Buford, what moves would you make in order to match up better against the Mavs?

Serious comments and thoughts only please.
    Thanks.

to be honest, I am hoping that you guys don't pick up JR Smith.
I live in NO and have seen him play enough to think that he could turn into an allstar type player.

...joking wise though, I am hoping to see NVE in black for one more year.

    thanks, that makes sense.

I think that we are at a point where age is hurting us more than "experience" is helping us.

Avery was so smart to see the benefit of having all those quick, athletic, versatile guards you all have...

Devin Harris, Jason Terry, Josh Howard, Marquis Daniels,

    Great decisions.

They'll be really good for a long time.

Mike James would be great for Spurs, but I doubt he will sign for MLE.
Kyle Korver might be available. I think you could use some shooting and he might be a good role player.
    Demarr Johnson? Could be intriguing.
I would try to resign Speedy Claxton. I always liked him.
    Reggie Evans would help you.
Is their anyway you can figure out how to use Nazr more? Couldn't understand how he got 0 playing time against us. Not that he's a world beater, but I thought he would be good for 10-15 minutes at least.

I can't see Pop being a Mike James kind of guy, but that just might be me. I think James may be headed back to Houston, anyway, but even if he wasn't I don't see him being the sort of backup point that the Spurs are looking for.

Kyle Korver might be available. I think you could use some shooting and he might be a good role player.
I'm not sure that I'd agree that the Spurs need more shooting. They were able to score the ball pretty much at will against Dallas; the problem in that series wasn't scoring -- it was a lack of interior defense and rebounding. For those reasons, Korver wouldn't seem to truly address any of the Spurs limited needs.

    Demarr Johnson? Could be intriguing.
I had thought that, too, but I've also been unimpressed by some things I've read about him. I think if Dermarr Johnson is a project, ala Stephen Jackson in 2001-02, he's a great idea; if he's supposed to be an answer, I think there are better choices (though he might be all that's available).

I would try to resign Speedy Claxton. I always liked him.
That seems to be a consensus opinion around here. I liked Speedy because he brought a poise and athleticism to the backup PG role that basically allowed the Spurs to keep their foot on the throttle even when Parker sat down. I don't think that Speedy will take the MLE (or some portion thereof) to sit on the bench, and after the experiences with Malik Rose and Rasho, I'm not sure that the Spurs front office is ready to drop the full MLE on a guy who is supposed to be nothing other than a steady backup.

    Reggie Evans would help you.
There's a great thread about that.

Is their anyway you can figure out how to use Nazr more? Couldn't understand how he got 0 playing time against us. Not that he's a world beater, but I thought he would be good for 10-15 minutes at least.
Nazr couldn't play against Dallas because it would have created other defensive problems for the Spurs. It's pretty simple -- if Nazr plays and the Spurs stick with a man-to-man scheme, he has to guard Diop/Dampier. Given that, you have to find someone else for Duncan to guard. When Griffin was in the lineup, Duncan defended him, which allowed Nazr and Rasho to play. But when AJ sat down Griffin, Duncan was left to defend one of Dirk, Howard, Terry, or Harris. None of those a good, long-term defensive matchups for the Spurs, for varying reasons. The decision to sit Rasho and Nazr for most of that series came down to the unavailability of another choice with Timmy. That decision almost worked. But it's precisely the dilemma that the Spurs are going to try to resolve this summer (hopefully) by finding some athletic bigs.

We don't need Kyle Korver. He's like a poor man version of Brent Barry. And his "Defense" is highly overrated simply because he plays on a Philly team where hardly anyone else plays any.

Spurs need a bigger and younger version of Michael Finley. A Sean Marion or Udonis Haslem type player would be perfect to play at the 4. I think Duncan will need to play the 5 position to beat Dallas. Finley than can go back to his 6th man role. That's all San Antonio needs imo.

Backup point. If the Spurs had gotten anything positive from that spot against Dallas -- just enough to comfortably buy Parker a couple of extra possesssions off in a game -- I think they're the team still playing.

If that Barry for JR Smith deal is still on the table you guys need to pull the trigger. He's gonna be a stud and I can't believe the Hornets are wasting that talent. He'd bring youth and athleticism to your backcourt..and definitely make your team more scary. A good backup like Claxton is sorely needed after NVE and you guys should be set after your Euro signs with you.

Jumaine Jones is a free agent I want in Dallas that might fit the Spurs. He fits Pop's "Derrick McKey" guy in the sense that he could play both forward spots, rebound and defend and can also shoot the long ball. And although he looks like he's 35, he's actually only 26.

Eric Williams is another similar player, but old and that's the last thing SA needs.

If you take jason terry off the mavs and put him on the spurs. Spurs get super fast and mavs get super slow. Granted, harris is super fast. He just has too much trouble scoring when he gets to the hoop.

Cuban has let other stars get away.

Actually I think the Mavs need a Kyle Korver-we need another pure shooter more than we need another athlete..the Spurs already have a few on the roster like him.

Spurs dont need much.. just someone who can guard Dirk one-on-one. or a rugged guy who can give him hard fouls. and energy (Najera)
