Biba has been playing pretty well. She was cooking in the parts of the game I saw last night. And they actually have a few attractive women on the team this year (stupid, superficial, somewhat sexist statement, I know).

Anyone else get the brochure for a tour of the Spurs locker room, hot dog, soda, chips, and a ticket to a Silver Stars game for $10?

I'll be painting a bookcase this afternoon, and would literally sit and watch it dry before watching any WNBA game. I think it's low quality, and I hate David Stern for subsidizing it just long enough to bankrupt the original women's league, and then letting it go low budget.

That requires an open mind and too many MEN are sexist and would rather not even let their household do so. I've seen a few of the baseline bums support the team as season ticket holders but this is the perfect example why women's sports don't thrive; their male counterparts don't support the team.

The WNBA season begins in the middle of the playoffs, so you can't fault the Spurs players for not taking that time out to watch the Stars. Also, most of the Spurs bail once their season is over, so they aren't in town to support them. However, since the Stars fall under the SS&E umbrella, you will see the top brass at the games quite often.

One thing I noticed about the Stars games is that the fans are truly there because they want to be. You don't see the posers, like you do at Spurs games, who are only there to be seen and spend most of the time talking on their cell phones. Stars fans are hyped up and cheering the entire time. Some are even dressed in full fan gear that Spurs fans only sport during the playoffs.

If you want to talk about supporting the team, why doesn't the local sports tv media cover the Stars. I watch local news just about every day and I never see any coverage on the Stars at all. They're doing better than they have in the 5 years they've been a part of the WNBA and have legitimate shot at the playoffs, but you rarely, if ever, see any mention of them anywhere but the Express-News.

Click on the first link Melissa for your answer to lack of coverage. Because the sports journalist scene is male dominated, women sports rarely get any press.

I've heard way too many chauvanistic comments from Ticket 760 hosts (and national hosts too) and when radio stations don't want to support it, then we get what we get.

It's ironic, the Kings' owners are dedicated to the Monarchs and give them their own pre/post game show and the same play by play for the Kings is also the play by play for the Monarchs.

I took Little ASF to the Stars' game against Houston last year, mainly because it was Girl Scouts' Day. I don't mind saying I had a great time, but it may just have been the fact that I could drink beer at a Girl Scouts event...

They did a special thing with the Girl Scouts where they went on the court before the game and met the players. We got to sit courtside for the pre-game festivities, then they made us move to the upper level, which was understandable at first, but the seats we were originally in went UNUSED for the game. It would have been kinda cool if they would have let us stay there.

Oh, and that 7 foot Polish chick the Stars had last year (Margo something or other?) was WAY cool with the girls. She was super nice.

ASF, Margo wasn't with the team last year.

And she was a total stiff and killed the offense on the team. This year's centers of Katie Feenstra and Chantelle Anderson are much more mobile and give the Stars an inside presence.

The Silver Stars also have a waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy better announcer than that weak sorry excuse for an announcer, Stan Kelly.

    Is it Kevin Brock, GMo?

I remember how fun it was doing the KENS-AM radio show with you two back in the day.

I've never even been to a Silver Stars game, but I wanna check one out sooner or later. What's the atmosphere like compared to a Spurs game? Is the music better too like the announcer is? I never liked Stan Kelly much. Spurs need someone else finally.

The quality of Silver Stars basketball has improved greatly with the addition of one Sophia Young.

Johnny you are correct. Kevin and I are best friends and he got the job because he was a of an announcer during the UTSA games and when the Final Four came here. He's done the Alamobowl games too.

I've never been a backup to a Stan Kelly. That guy blows.

You see, this is just more lies being fed to you by the F.D.A. and I'm blowing the whistle.

Actually it improved once Clarissa Davis Wrightsill was removed as the GM. Clarissa was good for getting the team here but she was a lousy talent evaluator. When she traded Natalie Williams away before the first season started, that told me right then that things were going to be bad.

Dan Hughes has had some good success as the head coach and now in his second year he is putting his mark on how the team plays.

The atmosphere is different than the Spurs. It's more 'fan' friendly in regards to having section leaders and the players really interact with their fans. The music is about the same. If Kevin wasn't so busy with his real job, he'd probably go for it. Last time we talked about that, he was saying in just due time. He'd do it like he got the UTSA gig from Kelly a few years back....just do it.

They use a lot of the same music and the fans chant "Let's Go Stars" instead of "Go Spurs Go". There are lot more kids there and they scream the entire game. As I mentioned before, there are fans that dress up for Stars games like Spurs fans do for the playoffs, which makes it even more special considering it's regular season. There are some real diehard fans that hold signs, use noisemakers and are on their feet yelling for most of the game. There are some baseline bums who support the team full boar and they actually sit baseline.

If you haven't been to a game, now would be a great time to go. They're practically giving the tickets away and you can sit lower level for $10. Also, this is an interesting time in this team's history. After 5 years, they finally have the right combo of talent and chemistry and could make the playoffs for the first time.

Would be the second time in 'franchise' history. When they were in Utah they made the playoffs. But you're right Melissa, this current team could do something that previous teams in seasons past couldn't do. Friday's 30 point win showed a lot of promise.
