that's part of it. another part of it is India deciding all on its own that it had already beaten COVID and unclenching too soon.

Dr. Ozlem Tureci, co-founder and CMO of BioNTech, which developed a Covid vaccine with Pfizer, said she also expects people will need to get vaccinated against the coronavirus annually, like for the seasonal flu. That’s because, she said, scientists expect vaccine-induced immunity against the virus will decrease over time.
I'm sure that's what they'll prefer, but it's going to largely depend on the prevalence of the virus at that point in time.
I can see it being recommended for elderly people, for example, much like the flu vaccine.
Moderna CEO said they want to make a combo coronavirus/influenza annual vaccine
I'm as pro vaccine as it gets but I don't think I would ever take that
You could whatasize it... don't knock it till you tried it, tbh
Covid outbreak on Mt Everest...that can't be good.
Right? Seems like a no brainer for old folk.
Yes, with a coke and fries.
Aren't we already doing this with other vaccines that people routinely take? DTaP and MMR come to mind. Not seeing the concern here.
I wouldn't choose an mrna influenza vaccine over an attenuated/inactivated influenza virus vaccine.
If the live attenuated virus covid vaccine gets approved (Covi-Vac), I'll pick that over the mRNA/viral vector vaccines. Then I won't need to worry about getting an annual covid vaccine for the rest of my life. Just a few times.
None of those are annual viruses/vaccines and none of them are mRNA.
Millions Are Skipping Their Second Doses of Covid Vaccines
Nearly 8 percent of those who got initial Pfizer or Moderna shots missed their second doses. State officials want to prevent the numbers from rising.
More than five million people, or nearly 8 percent of those who got a first shot of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, have missed their second doses,
local health authorities are confronting an emerging challenge of ensuring that those who do get inoculated are doing so fully.
The reasons vary for why people are missing their second shots.
In interviews, some said they feared the side effects, which can include flulike symptoms.
Others said they felt that they were sufficiently protected with a single shot.
A number of vaccine providers have canceled second-dose appointments because they ran out of supply or didn’t have the right brand in stock.
Several Walgreens customers said in interviews that they scrambled, in some cases with help from pharmacy staff, to find somewhere to get the correct second dose.
Others, presumably, simply gave up.
the peril of people skipping their second doses.
Compared with the two-dose regimen,
a single shot triggers a weaker immune response and may leave recipients more susceptible to dangerous virus variants.
And even though a single dose provides partial protection against Covid, it’s not clear how long that protection will last.
“I’m very worried, because you need that second dose,”

Well if enough Trump s get vaccinated, hopefully we can all lose our masks.
it's anti-social not to mask up, regardless of vaccination status. a lot of people are still unprotected.
