    Murray
    White
    Lonnie
    Doug
    Jakob

See if Lonnie defense makes a leap to make that the right lineup. If not, put in Thad over Doug.
They'd already be pushing it size wise starting a Johnson and McDermott forward duo, anything smaller is more than likely untenable.

Lonnie was already being groomed to be a 6th man towards the end of last season, with Pop going on to say that he could be a version of Manu for the team (probably to make it easy for Lonnie’s ego). Pop doesn’t say things like that lightly. It’s usually with a purpose. It’s either White or Vassell for the 2 spot. Murray, Keldon, and Poeltl are a lock to start. And the mystery man for the last starting position is probably a guy who can shoot… McDermott. Dark horse for that last starter position is Luka. Just like dark horse for last season was Keldon, absolutely no one saw that coming.
Samanic is more likely to be cut than start. He's a unique, somewhat intriguing player, but this fascination this board has with a player who's got a ways to go to show he's an NBA player, is bizarre.

Johnson at least forced their hand rotationally with his performance in his few appearnces before the shutdown and in "the bubble".

Counterargument would be is that if Samanic was far off as you say, why would they bother playing him in a starter role over Rudy Gay last season? It wasn't a one-off thing either, Pop consistently did it when he didn't have to at times.

Don't read what I'm not writing... I'm not as high on Samanic to believe he's a surefire rotational player, it's my "out-of-left-field" answer for a team that makes "out-of-left-field" decisions sometimes. Who would be your dark horse pick?

Classic Pop move to keep the second unit intact. Samanic, like Jones, will get his chances, but barring a trade, it's highly unlikely he'll start the season in the rotation.

I don't have one, but the candidates would be Walker IV (McDermott), Vassell (McDermott), and Young (Johnson). These would all be the team is struggling mightily and needs a shakeup type moves though.

Pop has normally started third string players when there are injuries. He's done this since I've been a fan going back 7 -8years.... That way he gets a look at the new guy next to the team's best players who can hide him better and he can see if the guy attempts to fit in ad do roleplayer things first. It also affects the least number of guys and rotations. Would not read too much into it. Next season is probably a clean slate for him.

    Murray
    White
    KJ
    McDermott
    Poeltl

    with the bench being:
    Forbes
    Walker
    Vassell
    Young

    Keldon not starting tbh?
Nope. I don’t think he’s quite there yet. Of course there are certainly scenarios where I can see it and he fits but this is how I would start (not necessarily how I think Pop will go)

Samanic started 4 games last season.

Gay was DNP in one of them. Murray was DNP in one. DDR was DNP in the other 2.

Theyll insist on playing White and Murray together, but really Lonnie should be starting instead of one of them.

If you start Keldon then you probably have to start McBob for spacing.

For me “ideal” line up is:

    White
    Walker
    Keldon
    McBob
    Yak

Prob agree; was just posting the lineup I would go with.

If it’s what I think Pop will do?

    Forbes
    Aminu
    Thad
    Doug
    Jak

The bench would be pretty depleted tbh. I could maybe see Vassell inserted at the 3 though. Something like:

    Murray, White, Vassell, Johnson, Poeltl
    Jones, Forbes, Walker, Aminu, Eubanks

    I think a bench of
    Forbes/Jones
    Vassell
    McDermott
    Young
    Landale/Eubanks

will be fine. I know we’re tanking so what I’d do isn’t what will happen but I’d avoid ever having Walker and Forbes share the court.

Not a popular opinion, but I agree. Until Keldon has learned to shoot his 3’s much consistently, I would put a better shooter, a McD or a Vassell. But, I would love for Keldon to own the SF position, to allow Luka to start at PF and see what he can do given the opportunity. Luka’s length will also allow Poeltl to prove me wrong and own the C position, protect the rim without having to switch/help the PF position.

Ultimately, this is my preferred SL:
    White, Tre/Lonnie
DJ (needs to play more combo and let Derrick be the facilitator), Lonnie, Forbes, (Primo)
    Keldon, Devin
    Luka, McD, Thad, Zollins
    Poeltl, Jock, Eubanks,

McD will start of the season in the starting lineup and will finish the season in the starting lineup due to his salary. Usually the Spurs give more minutes to the players making more money so that they can earn it. Assuming Thad or Aminu and Hutchinson is not on the roster at the beginning of the season, rotation may look something like this:

    DJM
    White
    McD
    KJ
    Jakob

    LW4
    Forbes
    Vassell
    Thad or Luka or Aminu
    Eubanks or Joc

I’ll probably wait to see what the final 15 man roster is before I even think about the SL or rotation.

It would be classic Pop to bench KJ after winning a gold. I don’t think his spot in the SL is 100% secure.
