Judge rejects Trump request to block House panel from presidential records
WASHINGTON – A federal judge refused Wednesday to block a House committee’s access to Donald Trump’s presidential records while he appeals a previous decision by the judge on those same do ents.
U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan rejected the emergency request to keep the do ents confidential while the case is argued. She had ruled late Tuesday against an injunction after finding President Joe Biden's decision to allow access to the do ents outweighed the former president’s interest in keeping them confidential.
““Were the court to grant Plaintiff’s motion, the effect would be ‘to give [Plaintiff] the fruits of victory whether or not the appeal has merit,’” Chutkan wrote in her ruling. “Plaintiff is not en led to injunctive relief simply because the procedural posture of this case has shifted.”
Trump appealed her decision to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals. But without at least a temporary injunction, the National Archives and Records Administration is set to release the records Friday to the committee investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection at the Capitol.

Judge rules lawyers who challenged Trump's 2020 election loss in Colorado must pay large fines
Colorado Magistrate Judge N. Reid Neureiter issued a nearly $187,000 fine that the judge hopes will deter others from filing such lawsuits.
They must also pay $11,000 in legal fees to the states of Michigan and Pennsylvania, who were both named as defendants in the lawsuit.
"They are experienced lawyers who should have known better. They need to take responsibility for their misconduct,"
The judge explained that the high fees reinforced "the severity of the violation."
The lawyers also solicited donations for their lawsuits from the "arguably innocent and gullible public," which the judge also said was improper.
He hopes that the penalty will stop future lawsuits that aren't legitimate.
