the view from boston when they got juancho:

    https://www.masslive.com/celtics/202...xt-season.html

"Hernangomez is signed for through the 2022-23 season but his $7.5 million salary is not guaranteed until June 30, 2022. That will give Boston maximum flexibility in determining whether they want to keep him at that price before free agency begins. Given his spot on Boston’s depth chart, it will be an uphill battle for Hernangomez to prove he’s worth that money in a reserve role. However, it’s also possible that he could be a useful salary matching chip in a trade next offseason as an expiring contract."

"The addition of Hernangomez at 6-foot-9 gives Ime Udoka a stretch shooter with legitimate size that can play power forward off the bench."

    "Final Thoughts

All in all, it’s not a flashy trade but Brad Stevens and Boston’s front office did well here in adding another piece to a roster that makes sense with limited trade capital. The team gets a look at Hernangomez for a season with the option to keep him for longer if they like what they see. Otherwise, his expiring contract could come in handy for other potential deals. Either way, Boston’s depth chart just got a lot more balanced ahead of training camp."

    WHAT?!!!

man we better get a pick or something! Just him and his guaranteed salary? SMH

edit: thank goodness it’s not guaranteed in 23. Hopefully we get a pick out of this because Forbes is the best player traded out of the guys moved.

His stats with Boston suck, but they also already have Tatum, Brown, Horford, and Brian Williams eating those minutes. I doubt the Spurs made this trade for him in particular, but it will be interesting if they give him a test drive in the rest of the games. Dude isn't exactly old.

It's more you flying off the ing handle like a redass goon. I'm a bit tired of people assuming this FO is full of idiots. It's not. They're smarter than you. Commence with the stupid emoticons.

Forbes likely wasn't commanding a legit (at least short term) 2nd. Spurs add $1.6M, but Hernangomez is worth a flyer. He's been terrible in recent years and barring him showing a pulse here, he's probably headed back to Spain in the off season, but a youngish, decent volume 3-point shooting big wing fills a need. If he regains his form from earlier in his career, they can waive him and depending on how the draft shakes out, possibly re-sign him at a more appropriate salary.

Spurs aren't getting a 2nd because the Celtics merely went from $4.6M over the tax to $2.5M over it after this.

Pretty good deal then in my view assuming it’s not an insanely protected 2nd. Thad’s replacement and Zollins insurance, plus option to pick up his next year if he looks decent enough. In 2028, DEN could we’ll suck again.

Hernangomez is not limited to one position. He can sit on multiple chairs on the bench both while being a 4 and a 5. Versatile AF.
