The dunk contest sucks because dunks don't thrill people that much anymore. Now it's the 3.

The Steph thing was cheesy, but I still laughed at Steph and his wife making fools out of themselves. They also got booed which I enjoyed.
The NBA is probably the cheesiest league in sports. The MJ retirement ceremony was cheese city and way overdone. They don't have an iden y, it's whatever the fad/wave happens to be at the moment.

They are not required to be there but all the living members who are on the 75 have been invited there. 60 of the 75 are still alive and from what I have heard 50 out of the 60 will be attending. I wonder if Tim will be there. I wouldn't be surprised if he's not there.
It's a big "look at me" reminiscing circle jerk, I'd be surprised if Tim showed up.

The dunk contest has lost its allure. It used to be MJ vs Dominique or at the very least stars competing. We don't see what would be prime time show downs like LeBron vs Blake Griffin (in their primes) or Giannis vs Ja Morant... Most people aren't going to get too excited for a bench player from the Knicks battling a bench player from the Warriors. It used to be a classic bar room discussion to debate who would win the dunk contest every year. Now the the most common exchange for casual fans is more like "who's that? Who does he play for?"

These superstars do not want to compete in the slam dunk contest anymore. That is the biggest issue. Now the NBA is just searching for anyone who wants to get on TV and who had a few good dunks during the season. That isn’t good enough, we need the superstars and those who really have massive hops, skills and creativity in there.

Which superstars do you want to see dunk? Most of them are prima dona’s. I rather see young, hungry players.

And pitting the prima donas against each other in a dunk contest might make for a more compelling show. Drama sells.

But that is the problem, they don't wanna put their rep on the line like that and possibly take a hit on the ego. LBJ ducking out of the dunk contest after promising to join at the previous years contest has set the template for current stars.

And that 75 Ultimate NBA Draft. I don’t understand how some don’t even know the players they’re drafting. And how two players of the winningest trio are not included, while Lilliard and Pierce are there? Gary Payton chased the only ring he has with the Heat.

Lonnie should've been in the dunk contest and made it more exciting
Pop would never allow a player to enter the dunk contest. Remember when Jonathon Simmons was supposed to be in it and then had to make a statement that he will decline to focus on improving his game

Iceman is there. It doesn't look like Timmy decided to come which sucks. Really wanted to see Timmy at this event.

I liked Paul Pierces idea that he pitched the other night which is to have a few NBA players compete against these YouTube professional dunkers. That would up the ante and make it fun from a compe ive standpoint even if you don't get stars to participate.

I’m not in the All Star game. The San Antonio Spurs are.”
