Because when will it ever end? You hope it doesn’t come to all out war, but for tat troop movement into Ukrainian territory from the west is better than a slow burn of losing territory every 5 years until Ukraine is absorbed back into Russia. Then it will be the rest of helpless Georgia and Moldova. Then come the provocations/demands towards Romania, Poland and the Baltic states, etc. etc.
