The chairman of the Confederation of German Trade Unions (DGB), Reiner Hoffmann, has warned of the consequences of stopping Russian gas imports. "An import ban makes no sense at all. It would result in significant slumps in the labor market if we assumed, for example, that steel production would come to a standstill." Entire supply chains would collapse.

The demand to do everything to "end this terrible war" is understandable. However, a gas embargo would mean that Russian President Vladimir Putin would come a little closer to his goal of "destabilizing our democracy". Hoffmann said it would not affect the war in Ukraine.

    Very good read.

Go incognito if you have to in order to read the above.

And honestly this whole thread has turned into some sort of giant slapfest in which real important military gains are replaced by "We shot down your biggest plane while it was in a hanger" For those really interested in the nitty gritty of what is really happening overall on the ground the following site is really good.

    https://www.understandingwar.org/

The above is more of a US war hawk think tank but they attempt to give accurate assessments even though they obviously hope Ukraine drives Russia out. It is often referred to by many publications when they try to give the "good and bad news" of what they think is happening. Suggest people read the whole assessment for the particular day. It can get technical but its clear they want to give the actual goods. This non profit supplies info that the Redcross and others try to use to attempt to move into an area and help. Also defense contractors who want to know what kind of weapons are actually being used on the ground and how they are working out. The try to be accurate because there are groups that rely on accuracy that keep the Think Tank working.

    eg.
Mariupol will fall soon. The hold outs Ukrainian units have been separated by Russian forces. The reason they were able to hold out so long is the occupation of structures used for defense in WWII like steel plants. Big underground protection. This will provide an important win for Russia as it will make for more control of the black sea land base areas. The major movement of troops are yet to come in the east for Russia. Russia is throwing very disorganized units into the war in the East right now and making very little headway. Bunch of examples like this except they mention very specific units by name.

This thread has become a giant gotcha bleed out " we pooped in your soldiers rations" picture of tank turret blasted off a Russian tank followed by a picture of Putin at a mandatory rally. So if anyone actual wants some hint of what is really happening in a very particular theater (on the ground) of this war, read this site. They also criticize their own intelligence if they think its shaky. "Cant get enough independent verification" Something hater and Thread are completely uninterested in posting. Too much cheerleading so Im out after this. * cue relief by this board

Been reading ISW's assessments. As good as it gets.

Russian forces continued unsuccessful local attacks in eastern Ukraine throughout the past 24 hours amid continuing preparations for a likely wider offensive. Russian forces conducted unsuccessful attacks in Sverodonetsk, Rubizhne, and Popasna but made no substantial progress on April 13.[7] US intelligence sources stated that Russia has approximately 55 battalion tactical groups (BTGs) fighting in “southern Ukraine,” though this number likely includes both Donbas and the southern Kherson axis.[8]

Russian forces continue to deploy damaged and ad-hoc units to Donbas.[9] The Kremlin introduced a ”yellow level of threat” in Russian regions bordering Ukrainian from April 13-26, likely to organize the redeployment of personnel and equipment to eastern Ukraine by imposing restrictions on civilian movement.[10] The Ukrainian General Staff reported Russia has formed five understrength Motorized Rifle regiments (the 103rd, 109th, 113th, 125th, and 127th) from forcibly mobilized personnel in Donetsk and Luhansk.[11] The Ukrainian General Staff stated these regiments are composed of up to five ”battalions” of 300 personnel each, and that only 5-10 percent of recruits have any combat experience.
    "Unsuccessful local attacks"
    "badly damaged... ad hoc units"

Reeks of desperation and sums up the entire war so far.

Russia will continue to throw bodies at UKR in the vain hope that will make a difference in the long run. It won't.

The only real victory they may have is taking Mariupol, but that will be a Pyrric victory at great cost.

    Russia's clock is winding down.

My gut says another month or so before they are completely exhausted.

Doubtful that the large convoy was destroyed entirely. Probably got hit at least once.

    Bridges go splody.
Ukrainians got a large number of russian vehicles with the smart artillery munitions. Once a target is designated with a laser, the artillery round finds it and boom goes the dynamite.

Rest of convoy when back to their starting point so they could get killed on another day.

    The Begging Tour continues

Washington’s reported attempt to ease diplomatic tensions with UAE was revealed by Axios news site

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken apologized to Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed during their meeting in Morocco last month, Axios reported on Thursday. Blinken’s apology was apparently meant to fix the American-Emirati relationship over Washington’s response to January’s attack on the UAE by the Houthi rebels.

    Russia just protecting their region

The West has been trying to be buddy buddy with Ukraine so they could install their missile launchers there

And it's an easy narrative to follow : "russia bad"

    So their hypocrisy tbh

It sucks that Ukrainians have to pay for the West being sneaky bas s, I really feel bad for them but Putin's hand was forced

Well if hater was Russian intelligence, they ain't the best or the brightest.
Hater would have been dead long ago from his incompetence. Pootin expects better from his RT shills.

Sure Mariupol was a tough battle but to consistently get slaughtered in an anonymous sports sub-forum, that is unbearable!
