"voting didn't work the way we wanted, so we're making it easier for states overturn the vote next time"

357 lawmakers took concrete steps to discredit or overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. That amounts to 44 percent of the Republican lawmakers in those [nine swing] states.

23 percent took steps to delay the vote count or overturn the election by supporting lawsuits or by signing letters to Congress or former Vice President Mike Pence.

11 percent supported sending alternate slates of electors to Congress that would override the choices of voters in those states.

7 percent supported a legally dubious theory of “decertification” of the 2020 election, which legal experts say has no basis in U.S. election law.

Study: Hundreds Of GOP Elected Officials In Extremist Facebook Groups

full-bore radicalization of the Republican Party in the past year:

    the
100-plus extremist candidates it fielded this year,

    the apparent takeover of the
    party apparatus in Oregon,

the appearance of Republican officials at
    white nationalist gatherings.

All of those are mostly rough gauges or anecdotal evidence, however; it’s been difficult to get a clear picture of just how deeply the extremism has penetrated the party.

875 legislators in all 50 states, cons uting nearly 22% of all elected GOP lawmakers, identified as participating members of extremist Facebook groups.

'A harbinger of what comes next':

In Idaho governor's race, a far-right candidate leans into extremism

In 2019, just months into her job as Idaho’s lieutenant governor,

Janice McGeachin posted a photo of herself outside her statehouse office with two men linked to a militia group.

Weeks later, she delivered an oath to militia members that is often reserved for state military.

McGeachin’s embrace of extremism would continue:

In October 2020, she appeared in a libertarian group’s video against state COVID-19 restrictions,

placing a gun on top of a bible.

In February, she agreed to a pretaped speech at a conference hosted by the white nationalist Nick Fuentes.

This month, McGeachin told an anti-vaccine conspiracy theorist that

“God calls us to pick up the sword and fight, and Christ will reign in the state of Idaho.” AKA ChristoFascism

McGeachin has taken these issues further than many in the Republican Party by not only sowing doubt about the 2020 election results but also

supporting “state sovereignty” that actively rejects areas of federal government oversight.

McGeachin has also chosen to publicly associate with media personalities who hold views about the pandemic, immigration, elections and race that are outside mainstream conservatism.

Trump’s ‘Civil War’ Rhetoric Is a Growing Belief on Far Right

Trump reposted a message stating “civil war” on his Truth Social app over the weekend, seemingly suggesting that the U.S. is on the brink of civil war.

This kind of rhetoric isn’t new on the far right, but the fact that Trump himself is elevating these messages is alarming, as convincing your side that you’re already in a civil war is a good way to make it a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Right-wing discussion of a coming “civil war” has been building for years.

And the types of people warning of it have grown increasingly powerful.

    Doug Mastriano

head of the Claremont Ins ute,

    Madison Cawthorn warned last summer

Multiple local GOP officials spoke of civil war in the run-up to and aftermath of the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection as well.

GOP senators want to block a bill being pushing for government to monitor (right wing) domestic terrorism after Buffalo shooting

    • The House passed a bill that would give federal authorities more resources to track domestic terrorism.
    • The legislation's passage came days after a racially motivated shooting at a Buffalo grocery store.
    • However, Republican Senators said they won't vote in favor of the bill, the Hill reported.

As with all the Confederate/red states controlled by Repug bags,

Repugs intend to 100% politicize the machinery apparatus, esp Secy of State,

so their counting fraud will be super easy.

Heads we win, Tails we cheat

    From Boston Globe email

Why Wisconsin Republicans' new interest in empowering the secretary of state has alarmed democracy experts
In recent months, with their party still seized by former president Donald Trump’s election falsehoods, some Republicans have trained their sights on the Wisconsin secretary of state's office, hoping to take it over and assume election administration duties currently managed by a bipartisan board — a move Democrats see as a prelude to a power grab.

    DeSantis boned by courts again.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit on Monday ruled it is uncons utional for Florida to bar social media companies from banning politicians, in a major victory for tech companies that are fighting another appeals court ruling that allowed a similar law in Texas to take effect.

11th Circuit blocks major provisions of Florida’s social media law

The appeals court harshly criticized arguments that social media platforms should be considered ‘common carriers’ subject to government regulation

In a detailed, 67-page opinion, a three-judge panel of the court — all appointees of Republican presidents, including one named by Donald Trump — unanimously rejected many of the legal arguments that conservative states have been using to justify laws governing the moderation policies of major tech companies after years of accusing the tech companies of bias against their viewpoints.

Though the court struck down the most controversial aspects of the law, it did rule that some provisions could stand, including that people banned from the platforms should be able to access their data for 60 days and that the companies should disclose their rules clearly.

    Behind Trash's Hitler-sized BigLie,

the Repugs intend to steal every election,

which means Dems can't possibly win, even if they get more votes

Election Subversion Replacing Voter Suppression As New GOP Threat

the focus is shifting to the finish line, where counting votes is what matters.

Election subversion is the new political buzz phrase.

A Democracy Crisis in the Making: How State Legislatures are Politicizing, Criminalizing and Interfering with Election Administration,”

which details how plans to overturn popular votes are becoming legally ins utionalized.

It traces how power grabs by GOP state legislators, via bills being introduced and passed since Trump’s defeat, are

being woven into state law and vote-counting rules to allow hyper-partisans to intervene and tilt the results at key junctures.

nearly half of Republican lawmakers in the top swing states have already acted to subvert results.

It found “44 percent of the Republican legislators in the nine states where the presidential race was most narrowly decided” used their office’s authority to “discredit or try to overturn” 2020’s presidential results.

States United’s report traces their subsequent actions, pushing and passing bills to let legislators and appointees intervene to subvert election results.

Trump allies in Washington and the states took part in a willful, political, and likely criminal, effort to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

    how Trump-inspired legislators have been

using disinformation and introducing chaos into an orderly process to justify potential power grabs by their branch of state government.
