Zero nationally prominent Dems suggested that Scalise be shot before it happened; zero minimized it, made fun of it or deflected blame from the shooter afterward.

stoking animus against American Jews and turning a blind eye to right ring antisemitism are definite election year tropes.

oldie, but in the same vein

right wingers spout this so much people believe it, then act all innocent when right wing berserkers act on it

On November 27, 2015, armed with a semi-automatic rifle, Robert Lewis Dear Jr. walked into a Colorado Springs, Colorado, Planned Parenthood clinic. There, Dear shot and killed three people and injured nine others.

No more baby parts,” Dear told police after his arrest.

“Baby parts” was a reference to a 2015 right-wing smear campaign against Planned Parenthood that began when a group called the Center for Medical Progress released a series of deceptively edited videos featuring Planned Parenthood staff and biomedical research companies. The videos purported to be evidence that Planned Parenthood was illegally selling “baby parts” to these companies. This wasn’t true, but it made for a compelling narrative on the right, with the phrases “baby parts” and “parts of babies” earning 83 mentions on Fox News and Fox Business. Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina even devoted time during a September 2015 debate to tell a completely false story, claiming that she watched the videos and saw “a fully formed fetus on the table, its heart beating, its legs kicking while someone says, ‘We have to keep it alive to harvest its brain.’”

My point here: this narrative was everywhere on the right back then. People were told it was irresponsible to lie about something like this, but they did it anyway. And then a man, clearly influenced by this smear campaign so much that he specifically cited it as his motive when he went on a murderous rampage.

So what happened after the shooting? Did the right own up to the dangerous rhetoric that undeniably led to the attack? Of course not.

As happens whenever a mass shooting happens, and especially when it’s one linked to their own poisonous rhetoric, Republicans acted shocked that anyone would even dare suggest that they had anything to do with it.

“The media promptly wants to blame him on the pro-life movement when at this point there’s very little evidence to indicate that,” Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) told reporters, ignoring the fact that the shooter was quite literally repeating the “baby parts” lie as he murdered innocent people. And then Cruz took it a step further, saying that it had “also been reported that [Dear] was registered as an independent and a woman and a transgendered leftist activist.”

Yes, Cruz seriously tried to argue that the shooter may have been “a transgendered1 leftist activist.” Is there any chance he actually believed this? No. Cruz is a smart man who acts like an idiot because it benefits him politically. The source of Cruz’s remark was something published by the right-wing Gateway Pundit blog, which pointed to a clerical error on Dear’s voter registration as evidence that he was transgender.

The Q-Anon Paul Pelosi's attacker spews is mainstream Republican spread by nationally prominent Republicans. Same with the El Paso shooter, same with the Tree of Life shooter and the (would-be) MAGAbomber. Same with Jan 6th attack on the US Capital.

If you think there's a parallel with Democrats say, it's on you to make it.
None of that is mainstream Republican.

in 2022 it sure as is.

On Jan 6th, 167 GOP members voted not to accept certified electoral college tallies. A solid majority of Republicans believe Biden lost and a bunch of pols are pandering to that view. Hundreds nationwide are running on it.

    https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com...lection-fraud/

A quarter of Republicans straight up accept and identify with Q-Anon beliefs. Donald Trump teases and tends Q-sters; national Republicans daren't criticize him for it because they fear his supporters and need his support. Paul Pelosi's attacker was radicalized by it.

Is Trump a mainstream Republican? The way most of y'all's leaders and talking heads grovel to him, sure seems that way.

    https://www.prri.org/research/qanon-...litics-report/

Tucker Carlson, Fox News's biggest star, peddles fear and panic -- white replacement, lgtb grooming hysteria, overhyping crime, telling viewers Dems are destroying America and schools are indoctrinating children-- every damn night. The Buffalo shooter mentioned Tucker in his manifesto. Y'all have hundreds of assholes like him, and a hunch of nationally prominent pols who repeat what he says and worse.

Y'all are neck deep in the .

CC doesn't acknowledge or denounce right wing violence, but he takes umbrage at pointing out that the off the rack Republican rhetoric coming from the perp's own mouth, is off the rack Republican rhetoric. And then he picks up a shield to defend the Republican Party.

It's understandable he's defensive about this. Bad faith often requires it.

    the Republicans are a joke.

they've basically stopped having any party platform the last two election cycles, the more flexibly to back their ty candidate, I guess.

it wouldn't be very surprising to see that strategy again.

Maybe I'm wrong but I keep thinking/hoping that this Trump will eventually pass. I admit the far right of the
Republican party is an embarrassment, just as the far left of the Democratic party should concern moderate Democrats.

Those two things aren't equal though.

Name one far left liberal policy on the scale of, say, objecting to the certification of electoral votes that got majority national support from Democratic congressmembers. Where is the bill to defund police? Where's the open borders act? Unlike radical conservative efforts, radical Democrats are actually fringe.

My concern with Democrats is their inep ude (or indifference) to passing mainstream, common sense policies that a majority of the country favors.

Why? The far right of the Democrat party is what controls it, eg Sinema and Manchin. The left has no power in the Democratic party, as we saw by how effectively Pelosi torpedoed Jessica Cisneros in the runoff to get her right wing Cuellar the primary win. The Democrats are the American Tories. And the Republicans are clearly the American Nazis, evidenced by most Republicans in Washington being officially 2020 election deniers. The Trump isn't passing, the GOP is an obvious fascist party now.
