What did the little kid say? He seemed especially happy it was the Spurs.

Gotta draft him in a few years, tbh.
Feel like the kid had predicted it would be the Spurs and the family was essentially dapping him up like “You called it!” sorta thing. Either way, pretty evident that Wemby wanted to be a Spur. His comments afterwards during the Windhorst interview about the special relationship France has with the Spurs because of Tony and Boris and how “at least half if not all of France wanted it to be the Spurs” were pretty telling as well. Pretty awesome tbh. He’s right where he was meant to be.

Lol, the mainstream bandwagon NBA fans and media are just big time mad, with MANY of them saying the draft was rigged for us.

The same type of fans that respond with things like "Cry more 😂" when you tell them that the Lakers just got 35 4th quarter free throws to get a narrow 103-101 playoff win, or that the league just gave the Lakers a prime Pau Gasol for some hubcaps, or that they blatantly allowed Kobe Bryant (RIP tbh) to force his way to LA during the draft. Or that the league has blatantly altered rules to make it easier for certain big markets with huge superstars to win rings.

Or even blatantly rig entire playoff series so said big markets could win rings (*cough* Lakers and Heat *cough*), but yeah, we get a number one pick for the first time since 1997 (a parallel universe by now) and all the dumb bandwagoners are up in arms about it.

I hope we win another 4 or 5 championships to really piss them off.

I love the sports media saying, "Spurs win lottery AGAIN." The Cavs have won the lottery four times since Duncan. The Bulls have won it twice. So have many other teams. The Spurs have been the best caretakers of talent and the least reliant on high draft picks in the league for going on three decades now. The rest of the league can suck it.

Wembanyama said some interesting things in this interview:

Lottery is done, Spurs will get #1 pick, how do you feel ?
Since it's over now, I've seen some teams getting picks #2,3,4,5,6 and I was happy to see them getting these picks. I'm very happy about the outcome.

First thoughts about the city and the franchise of San Antonio?
San Antonio is for me a solid and loyal fan base despite recent ups and downs. It's also of course les and a winning culture like nowhere else.

When you were, did you watch theses les?
I remember about 2013 and 2014. There was of course the Ray Allen shoot, everybody remember it as a great shoot but, for me, as TP was playing, it was the bad guy shoot.

    About being coached by Pop?
It will be an honor. From what I've heard, he is a demanding coach but I'm sure of one thing, it's that he is a good coach. He is quite more experienced than me, so I'm coached by him, it will be with a lot of humility and excitement.

But Spurs are currently a bottom of the barrel team?
In NBA, teams can get really better very quick. In NBA, with how fast trades are going, I've nothing to worry about that. What matters is that this franchise has a strong basis and mindset.

How do you feel about being compared with TP as you go to Spurs too?
I'm not worried at all about it. It's just an honor. I know people have a lot of expectations but they aren't higher than the ones I have for myself.
Haven’t seen this name in a while, wow.
    The French fans are back!

Dumb idea, but all teams were instructed by the league not to say who they would draft #1, as if it were even a question.

Free trip to Paris on the company’s dime? Why not.

In all honesty, even though he prob won’t coach more than a couple more years, I hope Pop and this kid develop a close relationship early on the way he and Timmy did. Started when Pop flew out to the US Virgin Islands to meet Timmy and his family too. Here’s to hoping.

Fun fact: I had the first date with my girlfriend the very evening, that Kawhi landed on Zazas foot. Since then live has been very good for me as my two Children Frieda and Moritz were born, I succeeded in my job and everything else was fine.
I somewhat felt bad for me beening happy without the Spurs doing well.
Now that the Spurs are back, I hope that things won't balance out with my live becoming .

    Go! Spurs! Go!

And his daughter made him a fun present: "The blue leather chair that he sat on when the Spurs got #1 in 1997". (Zach Lowe shares that in his podcast)

I'd love to get one as emoji here.

Damn, after the nephew debacle it feels nice to be wanted.
Yeah, it's a big " you" to Kawhi. As if Wemby is saying, "You stupid idiot, why would you not want to play for this franchise?"

Hopefully we end up with the better player in the end.

Definitely. One of whom they picked 15th, one they picked 29th and one they picked at the end of the second round. They did an amazing job of supporting their number one pick. They certainly didn't do that for David, in my opinion. Duncan was his reward for having to carry his teammates for a decade.

Does anyone know what was the probability of the Spurs winning the lottery in '87 and '97?

Would be interesting to calculate the combined probability of winning all three.
On Twitter they said the probability of winning all 3 was 0.43%. Spurs are insanely lucky. Absolutely nuts.

This actually brings up a question I have. Is there any restrictions on contact between VW and the Spurs? Teams work out players pre-draft all the time.
I know they've been instructed not to declare who they are drafting

On the other hand- he could just be flying into Paris and headed to Burgundy...
