Something tells me a competent coaching staff with years of experience and NBA level talent around him will work wonders.

Nah... he's a bust. But maybe we can use someone to dump his contract. Keldon + Wemby for expiring?

Jokes aside, people here are going to be in for a rude awakening if they’re expecting a 19 year old to come in and dominate the NBA with no struggles or bad games LeBron shot 40% in his rookie year with no jumper whatsoever. Giannis and Jokic weren’t all-stars until their 4th seasons in the league.

This isn’t Tim Duncan where he spent 4 years playing college ball and comes into the league fully polished (+ no one is Duncan anyways, regardless of age when they enter the NBA). He’ll look raw and out of his element at times but there’s no one since LeBron I’d rather take my chances with.

I was a bit concerned with the whole "I'm trying to win a ring ASAP" narrative, it's indicative he's putting too much pressure on himself and maybe doesn't quite get just how hard that is. A humbling loss in France may be just what's required for him to adjust his expectations on himself and the Spurs, and not pushing to rush things. He'll get there soon enough anyways.

Plus Duncan was playing with DRob—a former MVP.

It's insane that Duncan was an MVP candidate as well First Team All-NBA his first season. Nuts! "But but, he's overrated because he didn't chuck 25 - 30 shots per game to average 27ppg, and also he played in San Antonio!"

I disagree….. he’s supposed to feel that way even if it isn’t logical at this point; life has its own way of providing humility along the way to fulfilling goals/expectations. You can’t teach drive, motivation, heart etc…… he has it! Let him be naive….

Let's ship him to L.A. for Austin Reeves. Lol, Taylor Swift will break up with Reeves as soon as he becomes a Spur, lol haha. Another one of the perks of being a Los Angeles CakedOnHer, lol.

If I can be a little critical of what I saw in the first half (when I turned it off) from Wemby:

-He seemed lost at time defensively, especially in the PnR. On a few occasions his man slipped the screen for an easy bucket.
-Didn't see the effort I'd love on rebounds. Dude's standing reach is like 18 inches greater than everyone else on the court, I'd expect a little more effort and some better results on the boards.
-This isn't on Wemby, but holy cow do his teammates even know that Wemby is on their team? It's almost like they purposefully ignore him on the offensive end. Are they even trying to win, or just to get a little spotlight on them with extra eyes watching?

Points 1 and 2 above I expect Spurs coaching staff to clean right up.

Point 2 is my main criticism of Wembanyama over the course of the whopping 5-6 game sample size I’ve watched. For a guy his size, he hasn’t been much of a factor on the glass at all. Positioning hasn’t been great and he just doesn’t seem super engaged in that regard. I think some coaching + filling out his frame over time will allow him to improve tremendously in this aspect though.

He definitely needs some muscle to bang on the inside . Still, with his length he gets his hands on almost every loose ball

They put two bodies on him basically at all times. Even doing that, his teammates could barely get breathing room to bring the ball up, let alone get a shot off. This game wasn't on Wembanyama IMO, they just exposed how inferior his team is.

Totally agree that is why I want the team to sit tight and develop it's current roster as we have a lot of new talent I really want to see what we have and what works or does not work with Wemby. This serves a couple of purposes for one home grown talent gets to be developed and grown and gives us a better sight of what are future will be and we can still do trades if something good comes along. The second thing is that even with Wemby I think we a lottery team and like shooting if your Hot keep on shooting so let's go for another 1st..

Why the wouldn't he want to win a ring? I'd run from a player who said he didn't want to win.

That's pretty much how I feel. He will have highs and lows during his rookie year and will be inconsistent. There will be some games where he looks like he's the second coming and other games where people will scream, he's a bust. Duncan was a readymade product from the time he played his first game in the league while this kid is raw and hasn't fully matured yet physically and skill wise.

I swear, this board is populated by credulous morons. Yes, if we don't win a championship in a year Wembanyama is going to kill himself. It is written.
