In comparison, a google search of 'white house russia tactical gains' pulls up nothing but descriptions of RUS using torture facilities for people who do not want to be used as fodder and a press briefing from a week ago where KJP, the WH press sec, states they expect RUS to continue to make attacks.

With the world focused on the war between Israel and Hamas, Russia has launched ferocious attacks in eastern Ukraine, simultaneously ramping up its efforts to encircle the city of Avdiivka in the Donetsk region and pummeling the area around the formerly occupied cities of Kupyansk and Lyman.
Moscow’s reinforced positions and renewed attacks at these strategic points on the eastern front are forcing Ukraine to defend swaths of territory that were occupied for months after Russia’s invasion in February 2022 and then liberated roughly a year ago.
Some of the most intense fighting is taking place near Kupyansk, a city on the Oskil River, just 25 miles from the border with Russia. Ukrainian commanders and officials stationed along the eastern front said in interviews that Russia had noticeably bolstered its forces in recent weeks by creating new, fresh brigades — including elite forces and “Storm Z” units made up of prisoner battalions.

The city and the surrounding area have been under near-constant bombardment since Ukrainian troops recaptured Kupyansk during a lightning counteroffensive in September 2022.
Since then there have been only marginal shifts in territorial control. In August, Ukraine ordered a major evacuation. Other than the nearby bombing, the city is now eerily quiet; its main street and administration building in ruins.
Ukrainians have great drone spotters and prove why artillery is king of battles.
Per ISW Russia continues to take huge losses in the Adivka area.
But they will not stop losing material and men in order to make they point they are counterattacking into Ukrainian artillery/missle fire.
Putin has given license for his generals to sacrifice. With the proper assistance the Ukrainians can use these needless losses for taking back a lot of territory. Why Russia is not making more defensive plays to counter Ukraine is unclear.

The issue that Putin is running into is even Stalin had to mobilize Novgorod etc. He has already depopulated the male populations around mongolia and the arctic sea in the east. Andiivka is becoming another Bakhmut style meat grinder and indeed UKR has a much better artillery and defensive position now as opposed to a year ago.

In WW2, Stalin had about 4 million troops idling in East in case Japanese attacked. When Stalin felt that Japanese did not want war with russia, these troops were unleashed on germans, wave upon wave. His famous quote of "quan y has a quality all its own."
That plan is not going to win a war, a battle maybe, but not a war against modern artillery, bombs, mines, drones, and automatic weapons.

If your goal is to strategize every scenario on the battlefield, you guys are working on it. You might consider the possibility that it’s simply about bleeding Russia. Just that. Bleed Russia. You don’t have to care about Ukrainians. US support is about bleeding Russia.
UKR strategy is definitely to let RUS kill their own soldiers in stupid attacks. They lost thousands of men trying to take a slag heap which they still do not control.

Heavy Russian equipment losses around Avdiivka will likely undermine Russian offensive capabilities over the long term. Ukrainian Tavriisk Group of Forces Spokesperson Colonel Oleksandr Shtupun stated on October 26 that Russian forces have suffered 5,000 personnel killed and wounded and 400 armored vehicles losses near Avdiivka and Marinka (southwest of Donetsk City) since October 10.[1] Satellite imagery has confirmed that the Russian military has lost at least 109 military vehicles, primarily armored fighting vehicles and tanks, near Avdivika between October 10 and 20.[2] A Ukrainian reserve officer stated that Russian forces appear to be using fewer armored vehicles near Avdiivka, although Russian forces may be regrouping for renewed large mechanized assaults as they did between the initial mechanized assaults on October 10 and a second series of large mechanized assaults on October 19 and 20.[3] The Russian command has funneled additional forces to the Avdiivka front to offset heavy manpower losses and maintain the Russian military’s ability to sustain its ongoing offensive effort.[4]

Agreed. Russia is losing a LOT of troops. They are causing a lot of UKR casualties at the same time, sadly. A lot of brave men and women have given their lives for Ukraine in the last month.
It is great to see Russia have to deal with misinformation for once.
