Can you be DPOY in a bottom five defensive team?
DPOY is a stats-only award, because 90 percent of the voters wouldn't know defense if it on their pillow.

As of tonight's games, Wemby leads the NBA in blocks per game at 2.72. Brook Lopez is 2nd at 2.68, and Anthony Davis is 3rd at 2.55. Wemby has played 1 fewer game than Lopez and 2 fewer than AD.
Since Wemby hasn't missed any games, he would have the lead in total blocks at the end of the season if these averages continue and nobody misses any games. And I would expect AD (often injured) and Lopez (old or rest) to miss at least as many games as Wemby (Pop's load management hasn't reared its ugly head....yet).

iirc Wemby was +2500 to lead the league in total blocks in preseason betting. I remember saying that seemed like insane value but as always I didn't actually pull the trigger. Damn.

i fully expected for wemby to rest tonight and i agree. if he was already experiencing hip tightness yesterday, why risk it? not to mention just how gassed he looked last night in the 2nd half.

Yeah, that was never going to happen. I’ll be elated with 70-75.

I didn't mind him sitting out tonight, especially since we got 2 extra games coming up.

Wemby averaged 20.1 points and 10.3 rebounds per game for the month of November, making him the youngest player in NBA history to average 20/10 in a calendar month.

Oh well. I used to think your talent-evaluation skills were better.

You've been bagging on him for a while. From a basketball-discussion standpoint, I'm frustrated and disappointed in you. You're still always welcome at my house and stuff, but my patience boiling over is on you.

Seriously, he is amazing. The only thing more amazing is how low your opinion is of him and how unfair your criticisms are.

Tacko fall should’ve led the league in rebounding because he’s 7’6”
As long as he is projected as generational phenom

I am a winner not a loser. I expect things that are to be expected. I point out weaknesses which are obvius. I can sit and watch game with anyone and make argument in every single one of it.
The highways he gives to opponents, lost rotations, help defense, jumping on pump fakes and jumpin without pump fakes. He rebounds okay but 50-50 balls - he is not very good at it.

All things to be learned by him. And he is able to do that.

I question his compe iveness now but we will see.

His lack of strength is his biggest weakness. In one of his games Pop was telling him to balance first or stabilize first.
Okay. But how can he do that when you need to be strong to establish. For a 19yro pro player he is too weak. Still though it's 2 year process to be in satisfying range.

He can i all those things. But I do not have pink glasses and I am not in awe that a pro player made a 3 pointer like Sean Elliott commenting he has never seen that. I mean wtf?

On a present we are the worst team in NBA and I write what I see not what is gonna suppose to be or what he will be cause we do not know the future.

I would like him to be a legend of this sport. He is not yet. We will know in 12-15 years.

But I do not have pink glasses …

The English expression is “rose colored glasses.” The rose traditionally represents beauty and good fortune. If a person wore rose colored glasses, he would see everything as favorable and attractive.

Similar expressions are “the outlook is rosy,” and “everything is coming up roses.” The word “pink” does not convey the idea.

I think the outlook is rosy for Victor. He is doing well under cir stances more adverse than he should have had to face.

The Spurs team around Victor has been disappointingly inept this season, so far. Also, the coaching has been surprisingly substandard. Despite those unexpected difficulties, he has shown each time he’s been on the court that he can exert a major influence on the opponent.

I’m not really getting your argument. Are you saying you are seeing faults in his game? I mean no . Everyone does, even GOATs like Jordan, Lebron, duncan, Kareem and such had faults in their games.

If you are criticizing because he’s not perfect then it’s fine. But I think most people are being reasonable and pointing out that wemby is exceeding expectations despite his immense hype.

He is 19. He is raw. He is uncoached. He is on a team of young, raw, uncoached players. He isn't playing super well. He does indeed make mistakes. And he's putting up elite numbers while doing things nobody has ever done before, most certainly things no 19 year old has ever done.

Failing to acknowledge what he is doing well while screeching about what he does wrong is not what a winner does. He should be expected to have some growing pains. He has nobody who has played NBA basketball at a high level in his entire circle.
