Pop will start Sochan and Castle together. Then when the spacing is bad he will send Vassell to the bench and start Branham, thinking that will fix it. Somewhere after 40 games Sochan gets injured and Pop starts Keldon PF and then finds out he has to bring Sochan off the bench,
Dear Lord at Castle and Sochan on the floor at the same time

Quoting this just so that everyone has an opportunity to read it again.
We've had to listen to NBA media tell us for at least a month how the Spurs were playing some kind of masterful gambit by cloaking their intentions at #8 with one of their infamous smokescreens when Brian Wright was probably just sat around playing Connect 4 the whole time.

I have a sinking feeling that:
There won’t be any trades or meaningful free agent signings to upgrade the roster
    They’ll play a bunch of head-scratching lineups
Around March Pop will figure out a lineup that casual fans had been clamoring for since December
Despite Wemby averaging 25 points, 12 rebounds, 4 blocks, and 3 assists, the Spurs will find a way to lose 55 games
They’ll draft a role player in the 2025 draft and trade away the other pick for picks in 2032
Wemby will figure out that there is no method to the madness and start working on a way out.

I get, in a long term strategic sense, moving picks this year into the future, if you think you'll be capped out in 2030 and it gives you chances to refresh a le team with pieces. And I get thinking that the Wolves, as a capped out team with no picks, and aging players in Gobert, Conley might not be great then (Ant should still be good).

I don't think the value is good. You would probably be able to get more value over the course of the next 7 years by drafting someone (not necessarily Rob) and potentially trading later. There's more risk there, but you should be trusting your process to get someone pretty good.

There are possibilities that it becomes decent via FA, and the offseason as a whole could work out, but the asset management in expected value seems poor.

I'm also unhappy the pick was traded away, especially since Dillingham was my favorite for #8 pick, but projecting Wemby is about to ask out just because we didn't draft a second rookie in an awful draft is some next level doomerism.
Get off ESPN and their narratives.

If Brian Wrong doesn't get a few legit NBA players this summer, then I'll get mad, but having meltdowns right away is ridiculous.

    You're right to some extent,

But this draft has not even begun.

If the Spurs get Dadiet, everything will be fine.

God damn, guys. This is not the first time the Spurs got tunnel vision on a pick and gave it away when their pick got snatched.

You left out the part where Pop has a game or two telling the fans not to boo and they resign one of Wesley or Branhim to a 4 year 55 million dollar deal.

Let’s say you’re tracking Minny relatively accurately. A swap is still a first. So we own 2 consecutive years of 1st from Minny once Conley and Gobert are done.

Traded 8 for two 1st from a team that isn’t a perennial playoff team.

Basically two 1st that will likely be 20 or better.

In my mind once you start building out a “Bridges” type trade these types of picks become the deal breakers on the back end of an agreed upon trade structure.

I wanted Dilly but I’m not furious about it.

It also likely ensures that you’re not gonna venture too far away from a top 8 pick next year in a draft that is as hyped as it gets.

This could also be 2 lottery picks for a 26ish year old Wemby. Not a bad thought.

If the Spurs want Saluan they should have picked him at 4 or did they think he was safe to be there at 8? I'm assuming they wanted Castle more but who the knows with Wright and Pop making decisions. It's all speculation at this point, they might have only wanted Castle and took whatever was being offered at 8, poverty franchise.

Honestly not a bad night after some time to think about it.

Actually was kinda sweating as # 8 rolled around because I didn't really like the remaining choices so much after Salaun was busted up and I kinda wanted out. So glad we didn't take Matas wow what a dodged bullet and shows that SA didn't view Buze as a desirable option. But when Dilly was called it kinda made sense and I got excited. Even before they announced the trade I was already kinda getting buyers remorse about defensive woes.

In the end Castle was my #1 and I got what I wanted big time. Outside of Carter/Williams and maybe Dillingham I didn't really even want # 8 and of those choices I think I'd pick just trading out so since that's what happened I can't complain. Like someone else said, I think I just wanted the two toys and felt robbed by the trade. Even though I was well aware one pick could be traded away. What a waste of time looking at combos lol

My only issue now is the su ion that CHA picked Salaun vindictively and I took that personally. Let's see: Salaun was a stretch at 8 so he was a huge reach at 6. CHA wanted Castle reportedly. So did CHA get mad at SA for taking Castle and then took Salaun as payback? Oh well, it's for the best, Salaun is going to be a lot of work to get up and running and I hope Hornets ing choke on the development needs. It's probably best that he wasn't picked for SA.

Pretty bizarre the Spurs punted a top-8 pick in the draft for a draft pick 7 years in the future that could has a better chance of being in the 20's than it does being a lottery pick.

    Is bizarre the right word..?

    Apparently Clifford really likes him.
They definitely needed a big wing, he fits their needs.

Everyone heaping praise on PATFO throughout the draft process for ensuring nobody knew who they were ultimately gonna take at #8 when in reality it was because they had no ing idea themselves
When Salaun was picked they didn't who to draft, didn't like anyone else and moved the pick.

This clearly was a trade because they intend to draft up to 4 players next year in a “stacked” draft if all picks convey. They rolled the dice on next year’s draft vs what was available at 8 this year. What they got for the trade was a wash. A pick in 31 that is likely to be worse than 8 and a swap that will likely be, at best, a few spots higher if the trajectory of both teams comes to fruition.

It will remain to be seen which was the better choice.

So are they or are they not building through the draft like you claim they're trying to do? You seem to love to make this claim. Looks to me like they just keep trading picks for more picks. Rinse, repeat.

At some point are they going to use these picks on useful players?
