If no deal whatsoever can be done with bad guys, how's Ukraine set for a war of attrition with Russia?
Honest question, I don't know the answer.
Sounds terrible
As long as Ukraine is willing to provide the bodies (and given Russian genocidal policy towards them, they have no choice in the matter), the West will provide money, weapons and ammo. Europe cannot afford Russia to win. As soon as this became the war of attrition, Russia lost, as the west dwarfs the GDP of Russia.
Ukraine is paying a terrible human cost though and the west could reduce this cost by being more forceful with Russia and provide more aid to Ukraine faster.
On par with US and China
Zelensky calls Trump to plead for support. I guess he thinks Biden is on his way out of the White House next January.

...
Szijjártó condemned Ukraine's decision to halt Lukoil's oil transit to Hungary, calling it "incomprehensible and unacceptable".
He stated that Hungary has identified temporary decisions to stabilise supply, but they are unsuitable for the long term, and a "swift resolution" is required.
Szijjártó emphasised that Hungary and Slovakia rely heavily on oil supplies via the Druzhba pipeline, with approximately 2 million tonnes received annually from Lukoil.
Quote: "This decision seriously jeopardises the long-term oil supply security of Hungary and Slovakia," the Hungarian foreign minister said.
He encouraged Ukraine to respond and stated that he intends to address the matter at a meeting of the EU Council on Foreign Affairs.

Kremlin-appointed officials responsible for electricity deliveries in southwest Russia and Russia-occupied eastern Ukraine on Friday were struggling to halt accelerating blackouts and prevent collapse of the regional power grid, as millions of power consumers sat in the dark or sweltered without air conditioners.
A punishing trifecta of an emergency shutdown of one of four reactors at one of Russia’s biggest nuclear power stations, record-high temperatures that meteorologists predict will last at least another week, and damage caused by Ukrainian drones targeting transformer stations was responsible for rolling black-outs, emergency shut-downs and other interruptions to service.
Gray-outs and power failures were reported most often in densely-populated cities and districts of Russia’s southwestern Rostov Oblast, and across the border with Ukraine in the Russia-occupied Crimea peninsula and Donetsk region – a land space roughly the size of Poland and home, prior to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, to some eight million people.
