Mensah probably fits the mold of emergency backup C while Bassey is out injured more than Barlow does, is my take.
Meh, they're both pretty undersized; Dom might fill out to be Mensah's weight when he's 26.

Mensah seems like a two-way to start the season to give him a little more money to stay in Austin unless he really impresses.

Nah. The point is to encourage player movement. The Spurs literally chose 15 players above Barlow. It's not healthy of them to try to cling to a person in that position. That third year of two-way eligibility is there so another team can take a chance. But really it's "chop-chop". Room needs to be made for other guys coming up. If Barlow can't hang after three years, he deserves to lose that middle ground.
Like I said, if they can't beat the 15th guy and suck swamp water, just let them go, no harm no foul. However we all know that some players whether they are on a full contract or on a two way, can be late bloomers. Why pay the two ways a real salary when you can still keep them tied to a team for the two way price. In baseball some players stay in the minors for 5 plus seasons (depending on their contracts) until they are ready - some players just take a while. Only then do they move up and get a major league salary. The spurs idea of encouraging player movement, is telling Barlow to move on to be some other teams responsibility.

Relax, its just an idea. I don't have Adam Silver on speed dial, however there are some people on NBA boards who have more progressive ideas than mine.

TP's been trying to sell this for awhile, hasn't he? Surprised some water park enthusiasts haven't joined forces to go in on it together.

I really think the NBA should change the rules on two way contracts, letting players stay with a team for more than two years if need be. Some players just need that experience of being on one team .
Players can stay up to three years with the same team on two-way contracts.

Spurs were allowed to offer Barlow an one year two-way contract. Either they didn't offer him that contract or he turned it down to sign the same one with Hawks.

The New York Knicks have agreed to a deal with Chuma Okeke, league sources told Hoopshype
. Okeke averaged 6.3 points and 3.7 rebounds in 20.3 minutes in four seasons with the Orlando Magic. At 25 years old, the former 16th pick of the 2019 NBA Draft has potential untapped upside

Gordon Hayward is taking his 272M bag and going home.

Wasnt he injured for most of it too? And because he played in meh cities/teams, he was too irrelevant to be shat on to even have his legacy tarnished.

Not really. They got CP3 to take a mil less and Barnes to drop his trade kicker for this to happen. He was always going to be guaranteed based on those two things.

With Markkanen likely unavailable, are there any moves worth making?
It seems like this might be the team they ride with for 24-25

8/1 was Champagnie's guaranty date. Nothing to read into that other than the contract working exactly as designed.

What? Definitely not a bargain. Maybe appropriate pay, or overpay, but Champagnie wasn’t going to get more somewhere else. He’s lucky to be on a roster
