OTF reporting the staff has been "very happy" with how RB Jerrick Gibson has stepped up after the recent injuries.

They expect him to have a role immediately.

IT mentioned an offensive player that needs to step up his efforts, but didn't reveal the name.

OTF had a similar report saying WR Matthew Golden didn't have a great scrimmage last weekend, and he's someone who needs to rebound quickly as Sark begins to solidify his WR rotations.

For the starters at CB, OTF is expecting Gavin Holmes to be the guy opposite Malik Muhammad.

Holmes is supposedly the fastest and longest corner on the team, along with improving his physicality from last year.

'26 OL Adam Guthrie (Washington Court House, OH)

OTF spoke with Guthrie and there's a genuine interest in Texas and playing with QB Dia Bell.

Longhorns will "most definitely be a player" going forward.

OTF was at North Crowley earlier this week to watch '26 five-star OL John Turntine III.

They say Texas is at the top of his list, and he's attempting to attend the Michigan and Georgia games.

He has two older sisters currently living in Austin, one attending Texas and the other at Huston-Tillotson.

Notes on two other 2026s from OTF...

    - they also saw OL target Toa Katoa of Euless Trinity recently and he would have Texas in his Top 3 currently if he released a list. He is only one of a handful of juniors who could pick up the phone and commit to Sark right now. They believe he'll end up picking a school within driving distance of home.

    - WR Zion Robinson from Mansfield High, who was offered after he camped in Austin this summer, will be a true academic/athletic combo type of recruitment with Stanford being the dream offer. A&M and Texas will be taken seriously as well. Robinson's father is the track coach at TCU, which is also his alma mater, and he was an Olympian in the 800m.

Something to keep an eye on are rumors out there about DB Kade Phillips of Fort Bend Hightower flipping to LSU.

IT saying they wouldn't be shocked if that's what he does, but questions why he would do it now as opposed to waiting a little longer to see how each team progresses throughout the season.

I heard something about him wanting to play corner and UT saying safety.

I'd hope that's not it, especially with Texas looking good with J. Williams at safety.

I talked to Phillips a while back when he was offered, and he said the staff simply wanted him in the secondary.

    He can clearly play corner.

Speaking for my A&M buddies, they're just as thrilled it's back but would've preferred Texas not being good again for the first meeting in 13 years.
Yah I know aggie fans that are happy to have the game going again, but I mean the school as a whole. I mean, who was it that was so mad to push them to leave in the first place? Are they happy?

Small town DT committed to Baylor, and he tore up one of the Under Armour camps back in the spring.

Texas has flirted with him a little, and I think he could still receive an offer at some point.

Bobby Burton made a good point about the 2 RB loses.
Basically said these were our two most physical runners going against physical lines in the SEC.
These are really tough losses. Am I getting carried away that I don't think Texas should be ranked #4 to start the seasons without them?

Honestly I dont give a squat about rankings.
I just want us to play well. Its been a very tough road.
I really was not satisfied with some of our close games last year in conference yet we were clearly the best team in the conf while losing to OU. That stinks for me.

    The rest is tldr...

We still have more talent than we have had in a very long time (from my experience) I get tired of hearing about the 60-70s teams from older folks (dad mostly)
I want really good games consistently while I have as understanding of what is going on and who the players are.

Michigan is the first great test. Their Defensive line, especially the Dtackles, are very good (supposed 1st rounders). They have a lock down corner.
I want us to solve that problem with new RBs (Blue had pretty significant time later last year) and a brand new receiving group.
I want our defense to force a running team into 3rd and long. (even after losing a 1st and 2nd round DTs) BTW I think Michigan's RB is much better than Corum from last year.

I think I expect too much, but based on all the new rules concerning obtaining players we have zero excuse to not expect to be good every year.
I think our coach is learning how to win games in which we get a good lead. When we get ahead I want us to pound teams into submission, like the last 8 minutes of the Alabama game.
No real fancy stuff needed at that point. I still dont totally trust our defensive coaches. No excuses in the 2ndary this year, we have more speed and better players.

When we actually get into football, and we know our team, then we might have legit excuses with injuries etc... If we were to lose Banks, Ewers, and AntHill during the season, then we have real excuses.
Aside: I am very happy about what is being said about Silas Bolden. This is a "worthy" replacement as more than just a WR.

Imo the Aggies are resigned to their fate because the playoff system gives them a chance.
If I was an ATM fan, and UT and OU moved in, this makes the conference much, much more difficult for them.
But with the possible 4 out of conference being horrid, it makes their record palatable. (This year they got ND so only 3)
So an easier in conference schedule with tougher opponents at home, they have hope this year. But I would be very afraid of the future.

Imo the SEC should only have 3 out of conference games and we should play OU, ATM, and Arky every year. Simply because they hate us and that makes it fun. Well, OU has not been fun but its a great game.

    I completely forgot pass protection.
I believe Baxter was considered the best of the backs.
Lets see how the replacements handle this.

OU has beaten us way too damn much. But there is no way I want that game canceled. That is the thing that is hard for me to understand about the Aggies. Why would they want such a tremendous rivalry game canceled ?
The Aggie hatred for the horns runs deep. Some of those guys are fanatical about hating Texas.
So why wouldn’t you want a chance to beat us ? Especially the last few years before Sark got us turned around.
    Hard for me to understand

    Well you guys throw tortillas.
And when you had Mike Leach you not only irritated them with his personality, you backed it up and beat them... I think the series under Leach was like 10-4 in favor of Tech?
Longhorn fans of course will never forget Crabtree and Blake Gideon. My dad wont.
