Between Zollins and Branham, I don’t know who I’m gonna hate watching more of this season.
If they just tell Zollins he’s not allowed to shoot 3’s he’s usually a reliable enough interior scorer and solid passer to justify being out there. With Branham I’m not sure what the redeeming characteristic is if his main offensive game is pull up 2 point jumpers. He did show nice off ball movement today but i don’t think it’s enough to warrant minutes

Branham easily since he'll be eating minutes that should go to Castle. Also Branham is a way worse player. He's Forbes if you took away the three point shot.

Wondering if Knecht would've been a reach at #8 based on his numbers tonight

Easily Collins. The guy is by far the worst defensive big in the NBA. Just a ing traffic cone on defense.

Man, Spurs have too many mediocre players on the team.

Branham, I hate seeing this guy take 15 shots a game.
Wesley is completely impotent on offense. He can't/won't shoot and doesn't have the ability to score near the rim. I really do appreciate his defensive effort, but man, he's a non-factor on offense. He tries to pass the ball and make the right plays, but that's really not enough. Can't be a complete zero on offense.
Collins provides no resistance on defense and isn't a great shooter. Gets wide open looks and clangs them - really a momentum killer.
Mamu, Exstatic is right, pretty poor on the defensive end. Decent on offense, but gives it all back on defense.

Unfortunately I agree with all you just wrote... At least this game rightfully make obvious to take these conclusions...

Yeah, I'll also say Julian Champagnie also isn't impressing. He's hit some shots in preseason which is great, but if he's not hitting those shots, doesn't really bring much else to the table.

The only player that showed me much of anything today was Steph.

he wouldnt have been a reach at 8. there are guys i would have taken over him at 8 who were still on the board, but he would have been a viable target

We should of got knect at 8.Hes is something we need.A guy who can score.I said drafting castle with a guy who
can score should be the goal.Instead we traded the pick like this team didnt need no upgrade.Dumbass front office.

Sheppard didn't look that great - Castle looks like a much more complete player (right now) with better natural tools. Obviously very early but Sheppard seems like he's a lot more raw than advertised. Only caught him in this game thus far, admittedly.

If we didn't get Dilly, Knecht was high on my list at #8. Not a draft aficionado by any means but he was another scorer who could be reasonably expected to do work, at least in the regular season. 20131 pick obviously more important to PATFO.

Hopefully none of the bums that played tonight are on the roster in 2 years sans Castle. As someone else pointed out this team just has too many scrubs in the rotation and none of them are well rounded at all. Branham is god awful. Collins is a traffic cone on D and has no shot. Wesley is one of the worst offensive players I've ever seen in my life. Champagnie does absolutely nothing else if he isn't making his 3s, and even then he can really only hit wide open catch and shoot 3s. Just completely devoid of any semblance of a legit bench right now.

Hoping for a bottom five or six finish and lottery luck to land two top 2025 draft picks(Spurs and Atlanta) to replace some of these guys on the roster.

I don't know why people exalted Sheppard like some basketball god. I guess people didn't watch him in college? There were long stretches and many games where it felt like he wasn't on the court. He did blow up one or two games. In the NCAA tournament he was useless. He was super efficient and is a smart player. His hands are terrific. But he's small and slow, can't stay in front of anybody, doesn't have the handles or the moves to break defenses down or set players up.

The player who made things happen on Kentucky was Dillingham. I said this over and over in the draft threads. Sheppard is on the right team where others can get him the ball in the right spots and his defensive shortcomings can be covered while his defensive strengths are accentuated. But the Rockets are paying him a #4 pick salary and to me he's not going to be that player.

Reed Sheppard is an expensive TJ McConnell from the Pacers with less PG ability and better shooting ability.

There was only one guy in the draft I thought was worth a high end draft slot and salary and that's the one we got.

Mr. Expert, do you think it's possible to sign Paul and trade for Barnes while still keeping the rookie on a 6.3 mln contract?

Scoring off the bench is a concern if Branham isn't going to hit his shots. As others have said, not taking the #8 cleared the way to go for Chris Paul, which imo was a team priority.

The problem with Knecht is that he might solve scoring concerns for one or two seasons, but that's where imo he tops out and he doesn't seem to do much else. So we'd just spent a mid-lottery pick on a player we didn't really need. Instead we cleared space for a veteran (turns out, two), and wound up with two swaps (with Sacto) and a fat pick later on.

It's the marshmallow test. Team decided to eat more marshmallows later. And still got their target (Paul).

we know Castle is going to be more valuable than Branham going forward. I suspect Pop is trying to give Branham one last chance to show what he's got --which isn't much.

And, oh, right, Julian will go back to the bench when Devin is healthy. I don't honestly think Knecht would provide so serious an upgrade over Champagnie at this point to account for the cost difference. Note: not saying JC is better, saying the differential isn't that significant. They're both good shooters who can cut to the hoop but don't do much else.

Branham will get more than one more chance. If he gets his shot online he's a weapon. If he doesn't, he's not. But there's no big catastrophic YES/NO choice being made right now.
