I want Bud and no one else. Pay what it takes
Can't agree with sticking with Pop another five years waiting out Bud's contract

    For what it's worth

With Popovich unavailable, the Spurs have turned to Johnson, a rising young assistant who was a finalist in the spring for the Wizards‘ head coaching job that ultimately went to Brian Keefe, according to Charania. Johnson, who has earned praise from his players in San Antonio, was also part of the Team USA staff in Paris over the summer, as Jeff McDonald of The San Antonio Express-News details.

“He is an impressive young coach,” Heat head coach and Team USA assistant Erik Spoelstra said. “You can see why Pop has given him a lot more responsibility as the years have gone on. He is a very effective communicator.”

Not sure if it's legal or has ever been seen tbh, just a euro reflex when we need a specific coach

Could the Spurs buy out Bud's deal?

Stanford guy, not an idiot etc

But they all suck each other's in this corporation so it doesn't mean much really

To me a good coach is beyond Xs and Os, it has to be a leader of men and I don't see that in Mitch... at all

i don’t manu is next. i think he wants to spend the next few years with his sons while they’re young.
yeah, manu seems very content in his specialized role with the spurs. the key would be to keep him on in that role. but, yeah, i can't see him agreeing to the sort of time commitment that being a head coach would demand. he loves his kiddos.

Considering the way Wemby's been shooting, three names come to mind.
    Mike
    Dan
    Tony
    you don’t want him

If somehow worst case scenario Pop doesn't come back, I still think they're going to ride with Mitch until the summer and then do more of a exhaustive search, etc.

Some names here if Pop decides to hang it up

Taylor Jenkins - If the Grizz bomb this year, they may let him go. would be a pretty good choice. Has spurs experience in Austin and is a pretty good coach who gets the most out of his players.
Dan Hurley - If the spurs could get him, they will have hit the jackpot, but he will be about as expensive as Pop

If the spurs go cheap see below

Terry Stotts - seems like someone the spurs might take a chance on - just until they find their real target
Dave Joerger - long time NBA assistant see above
James Borrego - did so so in Charlotte after being an assistant in SA. Would he come back ?
Mitch Johnson - Would not be my first choice if pop decides to retire. prove yourself fo the rest of the season, then you can talk.

all these coaches have worked with young players and that's pretty much all we have other than CP3O.

If Mike Brown somehow got fired, he could potentially be a candidate, being a very defensive-minded coach, I can see they might like someone who's very strong on that side of the ball.

    I don't hate Mitch tbh.

If he can become his own man and not just a retread of Pop then he should get a fair shake. I wanna go young and not just bring in retreads from the NBA coaching carousel.

I think he'll get plenty of opportunity to showcase the rest of this season tbh...

In this culture, people are used to everyone spilling everything all the time. Spurs/Pop don’t operate that way. It’s not all all weird that they’re saying nothing.

He doesn't look coach material to me. At best just Xs and Os but not a manager of men nor a guy who cares about winning.

He's spent too much time with Pop telling him how unimportant basketball is in his life ^^

That sham's article when it came out a few days ago said that pop was resting at home... So hard to know anything obviously, but makes me less likely to think he had a stroke.. hopefully it's just some sort of viral pneumonia type thing that he needs a little time to get his energy back.

Spurs need a coach who‘s hungry. Like Pop used to be in his younger days before the whole „bigger than basketball“ mentality destroyed the franchise. And it should be somebody who plays a modern style of basketball, not a guy who says „I hate the 3-point shot, why don‘t you add a 4-point shot?“ or somebody who was taught by that person (looking at Mitch Johnson).

Finding the right man for the job is really difficult.
I'd try with someone younger that 50 and then if it doesn't work out get Kerr when Steph retires in 2 or 3 years.
If one gamble doesn't work out, taking another one would be too big of a risk.

I wouldn’t mind a college coach with a strong system who‘s trying to prove himself, which is why I‘d love Dan Hurley

Does he even have an exit clause in his contract since he just extended it?
He rejected the Lakers, but working with Wemby while having no media pressure might entice him more.
If he wins another le this season, there's nothing left for him in college basketball. But maybe he's just that type of guy who's content there.

If Pop has to hang it up, or maybe move into a “coach in transition” role where he only co-coaches part time (which isn’t a bad scenario, tbh) - then it is our best case opportunity to try to bring Becky home. Waiting to the offseason to make a change doesn’t work because it’s the middle of the WNBA season. Now is the time when you can lure Becky with a big contract, pay the Aces a comfortable buy-out fee, and leave the Aces in a good place to hire a replacement.

Since I don’t see Hurley as being that realistic… I’m totally on Team Bring Becky Home
