Socialists btw do not hate capitalism. I do not hate capitalism. Without capitalism, the material preconditions for socialism do not exist, and btw more or less optimal mixed systems are possible, like the USA and China.

For certain things, like healthcare, education and infrastructure, nation-level coordination delivers a lower cost of doing business for everybody. China is eating our lunch on this efficiency right now.

China was like 6% of global manufacturing in 2000, they're at like 25% (recalled by heart, this may be a little off) today.

I don't want America to be China, but the idea that we have nothing to learn from them is surely wrong. Investing in things that lower the cost of doing business for everyone -- infrastructure, education, public health -- like the US did in the late 19th and early 20th century and China is doing now....only seems like basic prudence, no?
The increase of general prosperity and productivity in China in the last 30 years has been amazing in its scope and swiftness. It also carries world historical significance.
