US President Donald Trump on Thursday signed an order related to the declassification of files on the assassinations of former president John F. Kennedy, Robert Kennedy, and Martin Luther King Jr., an aide to Trump said.
Why didn't he do this the first four years?

    Also: "related t."

Added: I didn't see the word "Epstein" in your breathless report.

I'll believe it when the files///facts are released into the public.
We'll know in 15 to 45 days. 15 day deadline for the DNI (Hopefully Tulsi Gabbard by that time) to present a plan for release of the JFK files and 45 days for the DNI to present a plan for the release of files related to RFK and MLK.

Relevant language from the EXECUTIVE ORDER:

I [President Trump] previously accepted proposed redactions from executive departments and agencies (agencies) in 2017 and 2018, but ordered the continued re-evaluation of those remaining redactions. See Temporary Certification for Certain Records Related to the Assassination of President John F. Kennedy, 82 Fed. Reg. 50,307–08 (Oct. 31, 2017); Certification for Certain Records Related to the Assassination of President John F. Kennedy, 83 Fed. Reg. 19, 157–58 (Apr. 26, 2018). In the Presidential Memorandum of April 26, 2018, I also ordered agencies to re-review each of those redactions over the next 3 years and disclose information that no longer warrants continued withholding under the standard set forth in section 5(g)(2)(D) of the President John F. Kennedy Assassination Records Collection Act of 1992.
Let me interject here; it was Mike Pompeo who proposed the redactions. Anyone hear what happened to Pompeo today?

Trump revokes protections for former Secretary of State Pompeo and top aide threatened by Iran

It's like the ing christening scene in the Godfather.

I have now determined that the continued redaction and withholding of information from records pertaining to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy is not consistent with the public interest and the release of these records is long overdue. And although no Act of Congress directs the release of information pertaining to the assassinations of Senator Robert F. Kennedy and the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., I have determined that the release of all records in the Federal Government’s possession pertaining to each of those assassinations is also in the public interest.

Sec. 2. Declassification and Disclosure. (a) Within 15 days of the date of this order, the Director of National Intelligence and the Attorney General shall, in coordination with the Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs and the Counsel to the President, present a plan to the President for the full and complete release of records relating to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

    (b) Within 45 days of the date of this order, the Director of National Intelligence and the Attorney General shall, in coordination with the Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs and the Counsel to the President, review records related to the assassinations of Senator Robert F. Kennedy and the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and present a plan to the President for the full and complete release of these records.

stopping everything the Biden administration was doing across the board is dumb

For all the hype and warnings about how TikTok is clearly a “national security threat” from China, the Trump administration has effectively kneecapped the investigation into one of the most serious cybersecurity breaches in US history — a genuine, proven threat to national security. In what Team Trump probably thinks is a move to “destroy the deep state,” they’ve actually disbanded the government review board tasked with getting to the bottom of this unprecedented hack of our phone system by China.

We’re still nowhere near understanding just how bad the Chinese hack of our phone system was. The incident that was only discovered last fall involved the Chinese hacking group Salt Typhoon, which used the US’s CALEA phone wiretapping system as a backdoor to gain incredible, unprecedented access to much of the US’s phone system “for months or longer.”

As details come out, the extent of the hackers’ access has become increasingly alarming. It is reasonable to call it the worst hack in US history.

Soon after it was discovered, Homeland Security tasked the Cyber Safety Review Board (CSRB) to lead an investigation into the hack to uncover what allowed it to happen and assess how bad it really was. The CSRB was established by Joe Biden to improve the government’s cybersecurity in the face of global cybersecurity attacks on our infrastructure and was made up of a mix of government and private sector cybersecurity experts.

And one of the first things Donald Trump did upon retaking the presidency was to dismantle the board, along with all other DHS Advisory Committees.

does Trump want to push disabled people out of the public square too?

As a relevant aside, it’s worth noting that “Accessibility” has sneaked in, converting the pejorative use of “DEI” to “DEIA.” Is the Americans with Disabilities Act the next target?

putting a freeze on a first rank research ins ution like the NIH is more or less an own goal

US R&D for health sciences is centered here. It's considered tops globally.

Now Trump wants to wreck the NIH and US public health R&D because COVID wrecked him in 2020.

RFK Jr. is just the man for it

Trump is wrecking the people's government and hurting people in government.

Downstream chaos and wreckage will be substantial -- but I guess that's all part of MAGA's war on other Americans

Why didn't he do this the first four years?
    Fear of losing re-election.

Which is why he kept flip flopping in 2020 on the covid issue, unfortunately he was relatively green to politics as a businessman and while flip flopping often works as a CEO well it doesn't work as in bent POTUS or governor or any other executive. He needed to pick a side and stick to it firmly.

It's also why he waited until his second term to implement some of his hardline issues. He's gonna be on a yacht somewhere in 2029 and playing golf no matter whether his approval rating is 80% or 30% nationwide at the end of 2028, so he doesn't care now.

I'll bet you a half million bucks this doesn't happen.

He can't overturn the 22nd Amendment by executive order.

It's much clearer than even the 14th Amendment is. The 14th Amendment was purposed to give slaves and American Indians citizenship and equal rights and freedom. Anchor babies, not so much, but chalk that up to the authors knee jerking and not seeing far enough into the future. It's a toss up on what SCOTUS decides there.

However, the 22nd Amendment was clear as day as to what its specific purpose was, it was specifically created because your very own FDR was a four term emperor essentially in there with essentially no opposition, he was a dictator, any opposition was immediately crushed by Black Thursday and stock market crash under Hoover fear tactic telegrams and radio propaganda ads.

The 22nd Amendment is succinctly specific and cannot be overturned without 67 yay votes in the senate, 292 yay votes in the House, and 38 yay votes from state legislatures. This would require a lot of Democratic support for Trump and thus it will never happen.

Has a very McCarthyish feel plus white backlash.

Trump's government is politically vetted to the max.

DEI basically means, I see women and black people.

The memo on how to execute Trump’s order shutting down DEIA programs —which was issued by the Office of Personnel Management to all the heads of departments and agencies—illustrates the inherent discriminatory problems with these policies. One section of the memo, for instance, informs the agency heads that all employees of “DEIA offices” must be placed on administrative leave, immediately. But what defines a DEIA office? The memo doesn’t say. Instead, it says that some allegedly DEIA offices are “disguised” with “coded or imprecise language.”

What that means, effectively, is that anybody who is in a DEIA office or looks like they might be can immediately be placed on administrative leave without due process or any other legal determination. That is straight-up employment discrimination. The government itself is saying that it can’t say exactly who it’s going after, but it will know that person when it sees them. It creates two different classes of government employees: one group that the white supremacist government deems worthy, and another group that is deemed suspect, based on as little as an eye test.

He's trying to overturn a whole bunch of other amendments by executive order. If he's successful, I don't see any reason for him to stop before the 22nd amendment.
